Top 10% Question

This actually isn't a question for me (I already have been accepted at UT)...but, what happens if you move into the top 10% of your class after your 1st or 2nd semester of senior year? Will they reconsider your application (if you've been capped)?

I was not top 10% when I applied, but got into the top 10% after my first semester of senior year and asked an admissions counselor if I could send in my new transcript with the updated rank to be granted admission under the top 10% rule. The admissions counselor said that they would only use the information provided up to the application deadline to make their decision, so I was out of luck to be granted automatic admission for Fall 2009. However, If I graduated in the top 10% and didn’t attend college during fall 2009, I could be automatically admitted for Spring 2010 as a new freshman under the law. Fortunately, I still got into my first choice major at UT without being top 10%.

Oh, that’s good. Thanks for the input.

Yep, they are legally bound to admit you at some point, but it doesn’t have to be Fall.

I would send in any information as soon as you can, and perhaps it will be considered toward your current application. Otherwise, you can choose between doing CAP for a year and then likely coming to UT anyways, or to sitting around for a semester (working perhaps) and enterring UT in the spring.

Good luck!
