Inception

Hmm what about Titanic and The Return of the King and Slumdog Millionaire and The Departed—all popular box office movies which nabbed the best picture oscar. I think Inception definite deserves a nomination for best original screenplay, best supporting actor for Cillian Murphy, and best picture:)

I honestly think that this movie has “best picture of the summer” status this year … I saw it on Sunday against my will and walked out a new man. It was fantastic. The plot diverged into multiple perspectives and the actors/action was very much on point. One of the craziest movies I’ve seen in a while. Definitely top 10 for me.

It better have raked in some cash for opening weekend.

The dreamer doesn’t remember, but the viewer saw the start of the dreams. If the ending were a dream, the viewer would have scene a scene where the dream began, like they did in other parts of the movie. The characters wouldn’t have realized it wasn’t real. Also, cobb is a master of knowing the difference between what is real and a dream, I don’t think he would have been tricked. The spinning top was to get people to hype up the movie. The viewer saw the begining of all the dreams. The dreamer doesn’t remember how they got there. That’s the whole seperation of realities idea. I think the whole point of the movie was saying there are seperate realities, and you have to choose to accept that there are things that are real and things that aren’t. Reality is not necassary the highest level of consciousness, but it’s the real one where you have to accept you can’t create things. In dreams, you can control everything- that’s how they opened the safe and got the dad to talk to the son (sorry, I never remember the names of characters) and how they were able to create a place.

So I read that link. I now think nolan just mind ****ed everyone- I think he just used inception on the audience. He planted the idea that it could all be just a dream, without saying it, so people on their own would think it could be all just a dream. The whole movie was an inception. Which would be genious.

What a great film. Nolan is on a roll.

Yeah, it didn’t matter what code he said. They used the numbers of what he said to create everything. The room numbers, the floor, the code, the phone number, etc… It was all subconsious and it had no significance to what the code really was. That wasn’t the point, it was to plant a plan in his head and believe it was real.

The kids were wearing DIFFERENT clothes. I watched for that the 2nd time around. The girl had a white undershirt-thing on at the end that she didn’t have in the beginning, and the boy’s plaid shirt was also slightly different.

^
I think that’s just more proof Nolan wanted to plant the idea that it was a dream to get people to discuss the movie.

In terms of the closing shot: it was the same shot when Cobb went into his wifes safe and planted the idea- so I think the closing shot was Nolan planting an idea, instead of it being a cue to a dream or whatever.

It was difficult for me to concentrate on the plot with Joseph Gordon-Levitt floating around looking all hot.

Have not seen Inception but hear about the movie often.

Sadly, that may be true. I do hope it gets nominated though. Actually, since they now nominate 10 movies, it will most likely get nominated.

I loved the movie. Christopher Nolan really has a love of a ‘backwards’ story and he does an amazing job of presenting the storyline to the audience. Worst come worst, this movie will get a nom for Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars.

I should stop reading through this thread  I haven’t had a chance to see it…YET.

Oh yes… He did look really hot in that suit! Damn he’s good looking.

I just got back. Even wth all the hype it exceeded my expectations. Great movie, I definitely want to see it again. Although that ending…jesus. They probably tacked that on at the last minute just to screw with us

I loved it, I really appreciate someone who can come up with all the intricate details like Nolan did, and then connect them all together. Some of the people I saw it with hated it, and said it was confusing and overhyped, so I guess its not for everyone. I liked the originality and the fact that I had to really think and pay attention. The ending I think was real because the top was wobbling, Cobb pointed out that the top never stops spinning in dreams, and I never saw it wobble when there was a dream.

I guess I do have a complaint, though (I’ve been trying to figure out whats been bothering me…)

The way the tied up Fisher’s story…I felt really bad for the guy. And in the end, even though he came to terms with his father, he was still being deceived and manipulated.

…yet, is it better for him to have not been manipulated, and to live his entire life overshadowed by his father’s legacy and disappointment in him? in a way, you could say Cobb and his team did him a favor. makes it an interesting question

I rarely ever go to the theatre to watch a movie. The last 4 movies I’ve seen at the theatre are:

Inception
Avatar
Inglourious Basterds
The Dark Knight

Out of these, inception is the only one that really disappointed me. I think that my expectations (after seeing nolan’s other movies and leo in shutter island recently) were just too high. I was expecting to be blown away and entertained non-stop, but what I got was an 8/10 sci fi/action movie with some interesting concepts (mostly the slowed time in dream state and the idea of limbo). I’ll definitely watch inception again; but to me, shutter island is the best movie so far this year.

I’d never seen her in any other movies. Cute face, but I was disappointed by her lack of hips/ass. Body of a 10 year old boy.

Yea I have to agree about the lack of hips/ass. I still really like her and the way she acts though.
