Inception

She does look like a little kid, but she has a cute face.

Yeah she does kinda have an… elfin body, but she’s still cute. And a great actress. And she seems supah cool, like the kind of girl who would love to spend a night playing Rock Band or Halo instead of seeing Sex and the City.

I don’t understand the last few scenes and the whole limbo thing.
If you are killed in the dream, you are supposed to wake up in a limbo right? So why at the last scene when Cobb shot himself he didn’t wake up in unconsciousness?
And whose subconsciousness did they go to? Fischer’s or Cobb’s? and how can they find Fischer there?

Cobb was in limbo when he died. If you die in limbo you are brought back to a prior dream state (if you are alive there). If you are dead in prior dream states (like leo and saito; remember that leo drowned or died some other way in other dream states) you are brought back to your conscious body.

Limbo is a shared dream state of all those in limbo who are connected to the machine. That’s how they found fischer (and later saito) there. Cobb and Ariadne went to the 4th dream layer, which supposedly can get them to limbo (much like cobb and his wife got to limbo in the past).

lol where does the whole definition of limbo come from?
so fischer’s dead? how?
is leo the single guy who fought at the snow scene?
so cobb have to die three times to get back?

they talked about it in various parts of the movie

fischer was killed by cobb’s projection of his wife in dream layer 3 (snow mountain). He died and went to limbo. They used the defibrillator on fischer in dream layer 3 to revive him RIGHT BEFORE he died in limbo, so that he could be brought back to dream layer 3 (and see what he thought his god father was hiding) instead of being brought back to his conscious body

no… there was eames, fischer, saito, and ariadne as well.

not necessarily. remember that the others were kicked into being brought back to the prior dream states. these kicks were timed very close together in succession so taht they were brought back from level 3 to level 2 to level 1 to consciousness. however, since leo died in the dream states and didn’t ride the kick, he merely died in limbo and was brought back to consciousness with saito.

oh thanks that clears up a lot
so what happens to fischer? mission failed right? then how did cobb get home?

nah fischer was fine. he was revived in level 3, then died in limbo. he was brought back to level 3 where he was revealed the fake info about his dad (the final part of the inception), then rode the kick to dream level 1 with the others where he decided that he would split up the empire, then he awoke when the sedative wore off. mission succeeded.

cobb awoke on the plane with saito after they both died in limbo. since the mission succeeded saito then made the call he promised to and leo was no longer a fugitive. the plane they were sedated on was from sydney (australia) to LA (america). so when the plane landed he was in america. he probably took another flight to where he actually lived in some other city.

hey lol Highlife, please bear with me this question:

 1. So how was Fischer dying in limbo?
 2. He did promise to split up the empire? I thought he said: my father wanted me to be … something… but doesn’t mention that?

Did you even watch the movie? haha.

lol I did
but well to tell you the truth english isnt my first language
so :frowning: bear with me ok?

ariadne jumped with him off the building that cobb and his projection of his wife were in

he told eames in dream level 1 (who was posing as his god father) that he would split up the empire since he wanted to be his own man. this was supposed to represent it becoming ‘his own’ idea which would then carry on to his conscious thoughts when he awoke, much like cobb’s wife’s thoughts of being in a dream did.

ohhhhh so the fourth level, that IS limbo.
so in their third level ariadne and cobb had to kill themselves first?

they didn’t kill themselves in level 3 to get to limbo. They just went into a further dream state to get there. If you recall what cobb said earlier, him and his wife kept going into deeper and deeper dream states and eventually ended up in limbo without dying in a dream state. That’s what happened to ariadne and cobb when they went into a 4th dream state.

Wait, so was DiCaprio’s reuniting with his kids just a dream? And they weren’t as cute as they looked from the back ■■■■■.

the ending is ambiguous. no one can actually prove that he was dreaming or in reality at the end (or during other parts of the movie that he thought was reality). there is a lot of evidence to support either argument though.

okay got it
thanks so much

yeah no problem

Let’s say the ending was reality. When Cobb’s totem started to wobble, what if Nolan is giving us an inception that there is a higher realm above reality such as an afterlife or to many religious folks, a heaven. The levels may be Heaven/After Life -> Reality -> Dream -> Sub-Dream -> Subconsciousness -> Limbo.

I don’t know just a thought. I also overlooked on how to get from reality to afterlife and how it may seem to contradict the apparent “laws” of dreamstate.

After all the inception threads that came up here, it was driving me nuts that i couldn’t fully read them because i hadn’t seen the movie yet so my friend and i decided to go see it the day that it came out which was three days earlier than planned. We’re still going to see it again on the original date. But that was pretty mind blowing. I’ve already had extensive discussions about it. However, the theory that we are all living in one of the dream state, i.e. the subconscious, is a bit nuts. But my friend would say that the reason that we would think that it’s crazy is because we are in a dream, and because “everything seems real in a dream”. Also, because we’ve been ‘incepted’ an idea, we refuse to believe that we’re in a dream. It is pretty insane but is something that is of interest and fascinates me because i’m not religious at all, and this seems like just another theory in line with the heaven and earth one.
