Inconsistencies in SAT Scores

When I first took the SAT in January I scored the following: CR-660 M-600 W-640
Total: 1900

The second time I took it in May I got scored different results: CR-680 M-520 W-580
Total: 1780

Difference: 180 pts.

Should I even take it a 3rd time if my scores varied so immensely between the two?

If I were to take it again I would be studying prior to it which I have not done previously. If I were to take it again, can anyone direct me to good posts that discuss study aids for the SAT?

Thanks in advance.

How much did you study for the second time? Zilch? or just the night before? Was school a pain in the ass in May with the end of the year ending? I think you should take a third time if you study over the summer. I have a bunch of posts about Critical reading, but I still kinda suck at math.

Not at all. I went in the first time calm, cool, and collected just thinking I would do averagely. Second time I went in aiming for a 2100+ and with a proctor who made me feel uncomfortable. All of this without one second of studying (though I did eye the BB on my bookshelf a few times w/o opening it). Perhaps my nerves got the best of me?

Thanks! I’m going to check them out, I need all the help I can get :)

You may consider taking the ACT instead. Students who are better ELA (english / language arts) as opposed to math seem to do better on it.

@csdad
I took the ACT for the 1st time back in April and I got a 27 on it. My reading and writing score was 30, but I got a 24 in math and science.

Any advice on that?

Scoring low on Science doesn’t bode well for a lot of improvement on the ACT. You have a 1340 Super Score on the SAT, which is a very good score. What schools are you hoping to be admitted to?

I didn’t finish math or science, I had to Christmas tree the rest of the answers (about 30 math and 10-15 for science). My problem with the ACT was that it made me very bored and I would daydream during the test. If I work on concentration would you recommend me taking it again?

Super score is actually 1280 CR+Math and 1920 CR+Math+Writing
Some of my top schools are:

 1. University of Washington
 2. University of Puget Sound
 3. University of Miami
 4. Loyola University Maryland
 5. Lewis & Clarke College

Can anyone answer my question regarding ACT mentioned in the above post? It’d be a great help, thanks.

Even though you may have potential for ACT, I recommend you stick with the SAT. Of course, unless you have loads of time. Just don’t stop studying and make sure you are analyzing the patterns of the questions. Soon enough you’ll see that it’s just repetition. Good luck!
