Hi fellow CCers! So I got my April 13 scores back and received a 30 composite. I'm taking the test again in June so do you guys think that I can get it up to 33/34? My ultimate goal is to go to Rice so what do u think would be a sufficient score for this school? And I would greatly appreciate it if some of you guys who were in the same situation as me shared what you did to increase your score by several points.

30 composite
31 English
31 Math
31 Reading
27 Science

Thanks so much!!!!

I have the same problem!
30 composite
31 English
34 Reading
27 Science
27 Math

I’m aiming for a 32, which will make me eligible for a full scholarship.
So I’m going to keep doing practice tests-I need to work on my time constraint, since I didn’t have time for the last 4-5 questions on the math and science sections.
I would say just keep doing practice tests!!

@36ACTWarlord. I disagree. Practice really does help. It helps give you strategies for how to take the test. And what helped me the most (although I didn’t prep much) was getting the timing down on each section. Once I was able to finish sections without running out of time I found t scores increased because I would rush less.

Warlord is just trolling every thread…

Just don’t response to trolling.

I was able to increase my 30 to a 33, and two subscores to 36s. The subjects that improve with practice are Reading and Science (to increase speed), and the subjects where you need to learn the material are English and Math. Since your score are about equal, get a comprehensive prep book, but make sure to practice science especially.

@warlord. Are you saying that knowing trig identities and complex idioms is an innate skill? You are wrong.

Act36 not everyone is a natural… Some people have to actually work for things in life.

Thanks everyone for the great tips!!!

Finally, that warlord guy got banned.

Took practice English act. I got a 22/36… Very bummed… I timed myself to an I was pacing myself very well. I have no idea what was wrong. I know I can get atleast 31 on all subjects except english. any Tips?

Oddly enough I think English is the easiest subject. It’s just grammar- get a prep book and learn the tricks and idioms. Practice to improve your grammar ear and soon the mistakes should be obvious. It comes more naturally for some people, but don’t give up.

I always thought the math and reading was the english. I can never remember how to use semi-coloms, colons, and dashes. Any easy tips on how to remember those? And I am getting the ACT Princeton Review Book, I think that will help me learn some tricks for all the sections.

Semicolons are like periods; they connect two independent clauses.
Colons can be very useful: they can be used before listed items and elaborate on prior points.
Dashes are very versatile-and common- because they can act as commas.
