Increasing my GPA.

Quick Questions: My current weighted GPA is 2.4687...and I need to bring it up to a 3.0, is it possible to do that in one year? (I'm a junior about to start senior year)

And my other question is, what year do I apply to colleges? Is it senior year? So does that mean colleges will see my 3.0 GPA instead of the old GPA?

oh and senior year I'm taking AP Chem and AP English.

Your college application will be reviewed with your transcript through the end of your junior year. In other words, it’s your GPA at the end of your Junior year that will make or break you. This isn’t saying that your senior year grades aren’t important. The colleges that you apply to will receive a midyear report of your senior year as well as the final transcript after your senior year. The grade reports during your senior year are mainly for colleges to see that you have maintained your gpa without any hint of senioritis. Colleges can take away an acceptance if your senior mid-year grades or senior transcript show a decline in grades.

You should apply to college in the Fall of your senior year. Make sure that you apply to colleges EARLY and make sure to check the application deadlines for the colleges that you’re interested in. Both of my sons had all of their applications completed and sent by Dec. 1st. This took the stress off of them for the rest of the senior year. Definitely apply to one or two colleges that accept EA (Early Action—not Early Decision) applications. Apply Regular Decision to the rest of them.

This summer, you should work on finalizing a well prepared High School Resume. You should also begin to fill out the Common Application online. Start preparing a couple of essays based on the Common Application essay prompts. Also, make up your college wish list: Reach, Match, Safety. Concentrate on your safeties!!! Remember to also take finances into consideration.

When you get back to school in the Fall of your senior year, get your teacher recommendations done ASAP before all of the other kids start hounding the teachers.

Complete the Common Application by the end of Sept. or beginning of October. It’s not a requirement to do so but it’s a good idea to get it done before the school work starts getting more demanding (as is usually the case the deeper you get into the quarter).
