Ella, 23, the 30th in line to the throne, was studying Spanish and English literature at Brown University, Rhode Island, in America when she met 24-year-old Aatish, a Mumbai-born Sikh, who occasionally dresses up as Captain Condom to promote the importance of safe sex. They plan to announce their engagement soon.

Desi Guys, see at Brown you can pick up royal chicks!!!

"yes, hello, neither will they mind your 12:12 AM or my 2 jan 2005 online app to upenn :D" yeah coz its all abt the money and the bloody rankings!!

astrix - from what i know every uni has its own process. As I had mentioned before the few uni.s that i have researched (the admission process) they have atleast 2-3 level of admission officers.
1st level - make sure the file is complete (grad students/seniors)
2nd level - note the imp aspects and summarize (includes highlighting key aspects from the essay) [fresh graduates, usually]
3rd level - compare/contrast and make the decision in a committee format [experienced]

In this kind of a situation, the 3rd level will have your essays - but those essays will be highlighted/underlined for key aspects, quotes or even have notes on it. Many uni.s have a summary form for every applicant that lists all the stuff that they are looking for (many uni.s have completed forumulas for the US students for quant stuff like scores, ranks etc.)

So to summarize, yes the admission officer reads your essay, but it is not always the 'decision makers'. The decision maker will have your essay and it is upon the applicant to have very strong starting and quotes (tht are highlighted by the 2nd level) which makes them read it.

Also, remember that between Monday - Thursday, most of these colleges will receive anywhere between 5,000-8,000 application depending on the college (Yes, every1 is like us - submitting at the last moment :)) and my application is just 1 of them.

On the same note, i think it would be relevant to mention that over 1/4 of these colleges will lose one of your doc (reco., transcripts, etc.) so make sure that you have extras to send them asap. You will receive these mails about missing docs. in 3/4 week of Jan.
