lol, astrix, of course! we're like this crosses fingers! i just haven't heard the phrase in forever! I just hope they're not too "gaga" (LOL!) over it b/c I sent a video to the adcoms! :0

hie...is anyone applying to mit from india??? could you have an interview???

Mercurysquad, trust me,its better for you not to have an interview with this guy.He is known for taking candidates apart.

Seeing your profile over at the Princeton board, you should have an MIT interview. He won't like your math / sci marks (he didn't for this guy last year who used to be on the Indian post) but I think he'll see that you're really into tech. Now again, that guy was also really into programming, but your stuff is over the top.

But it wont matter if HE doesnt like my marks. He cant advise the admission office on my academic qualifications.. all he can send is an interview report. Correct me if I'm wrong. MIT afaik is liberal with test scores... but this might be a misconception.

Hmm. Dunno if it helps, but I remembered reading this:

well the points were

tha bad things 1) Spoke to me, said that my marks in other subj in the boards in chem, phy were bad. Upon finding out that I had spent only about 1 hr a day on phy, chem, math he said thats wrong. I am too comp oriented at present.

2)Skipping will hurt. Didnt say what impact regiving the test will have , but he as such thinks its a good decision as he says I underperformed and I can make that up, get some proof of a higher standard.

The good.

1)He spoke to my comp teacher (the teacher who knows me best)and my comp teacher put up a good rec for him. I would assume that counts.

(seeing as he is the head of the dept and a supervisor at DPSRKP and I think he is on the CBSE comp sci syllabus board too.)

One of the reasons why he has a higher opinion of my me than my marks show is because my teacher vouched for me and my previous school record also shows a drop in the 12th board.

2) My awards, I guess, made him call me in the first place. Otherwise, he would have effectively ignored me (He does a screeening process thing with his applicants and to most he doesnt talk all that much.)

Other points

He said that the problem with recommending me is that he recommended this chap earlier (Utkarsh Sinha) and he is failing there. So, he is apprehensive. Basically the board keeps coming up again and again. I guess it would have been easier if Utkash hadent been sent.

He said that I should broaded myself. (I told him , I skipped the year to do so.) He said that he was sure I would go on and do really well in life and that I was really good at comp sci (Just to keep neutralize the board bashing I guess), but I should spend more time on other subjects.

He said given my marks its tough, told me my essays have to be really good (told my dad to help..) if I am to stand a chance.

Thats the gist of it. (I have left out a few details, which I feel I shouldnt share, I hope you understand. Its nothing major.)

That was a 1.5 hr chat I had with him. He said that wasnt the actual interview just a chat he wanted to have with me and my dad. He will have a longer interview later.

Basically, the guy's careful with who he recommends

i really feel sorry for Ishan he was clearly one the best applicants from india

Such is life, hello :) Can't have everything you wish for. It's just important to realize that even if we don't get into our dream schools - wherever we end up - we'll be okay anyway.

<had to="" do="" that.="" mid-dec="" scaring="" me=""></had>

and now he is in Hansraj doing chemistry. What a waste.

Nice how we chose the exact same insane time to post. Sup, akash
