Indian Students - Here!

@anotherdude If I can boost my aggregate in 11th somehow, will my chances of at UofM be realistic? It is one of my target universities.

Urgent:

Has anyone here tried registering here for the APs ? It is not working out for me. Every time I complete the form and press the submit button , I am getting redirected to the same page. I am also not getting any confirmation email.

Any help ?

Here’s the link to the AP registration page:

@ThatBrownDude idk about ivies, but schools like UIUC don’t place that much emphasis on 11th grade marks, as long as yo have strong ECs and show an upward trend from there. I had a 20% increase from 11th to 12th. And if you have a legit reason, then it’s fine. There’s honestly nothing you can do about it, except - try to focus on your strengths. Like if you want to major in Chem, do related research or internships. You still have time.

@uclaparent9 Nope. UCLA looks only at Grade 10 Boards and Grade 12 Predicted for India. It doesn’t consider 9th and 11th grade marks

@shaunakk98 Are you sure??!!

Not 100%. But I did read this somewhere. Someone I knew emailed the admissions office and this is what they replied

@anotherdude aren’t you the guy who was worried about getting his likely rescinded? Wow! Man I get really mad seeing some of your comments. It’s like you’re projecting your own insecurities onto other people just so that you can palliate yourself.

I agree that 77% is pretty low for ivies. But asking that guy to strike the ivies from his list is completely out of line and it’s very shit*y that you should say that! You yourself are not an expert in grades either. You told us yourself that you might get something around a 75 in your finals so it doesn’t make sense that you discourage someone who’s on the same boat as you.

You owe him an apology.

@ThatBrownDude Your SAT is fine and a higher test score will not make up for the low grades. You already crossed the threshold of SAT scores for almost all colleges. So I’d suggest you focus on strengthening the rest of your application. I, however, have to tell you that 77% is not going to look good on your application. You’re also gonna have to show the 12th half yearly results right? unless your midterms in 12th hover around 95% or something, I’m afraid chances are gonna be pretty low.

Oh and don’t let people discourage you. Ivies are completely unpredictable and they constantly reject people with perfect everything. So you might still have a shot, although they still are reaches.

@anotherdude I sincerely hope that you get into Columbia. Keeping the above stuff aside, I think You’re a remarkable applicant And I hope that everything goes hassle free.

@rahuilmars231 , @anotherdude 's comment was not at all insulting. This is called constructive criticism, and he is completely right in saying that a 75% is a deal breaker for the ivies. Talking about himself, he has performed well throughout school, it is just his board exams for which he is not confident. And umm not meaning to seem bitchy or anything, but anotherdude is in a much higher boat than most of us here.

You don’t need to hope for him to get into Columbia. He’s already in (Likely Letter)

Cheers!

@ShaunakK98 there is nothing constructive about advising people to not to apply (especially when self projection is so visible in those comments)

And I know he got in. what I meant when I said I hope he gets into Columbia is, I hope nothing akin to an expulsion or a rejection occurs due to the low grades. And I’m well aware that he’s on a much higher boat than most of us. He’s got a pretty remarkable resume.

@rahuilmars231 Well if it does save one the money and the effort to write those applications, it could be constructive. Either way, it us ultimately up to the applicant himself whether or not to apply!

@rahuilmars231 I’m sorry if there was something wrong with my comments. But I’m still going to stand by what I said (77% is really low for ivies and the likes). I’m not projecting my own insecurity onto other people. I had a great school record (90+) throughout HS. It’s no secret that you need a great HS record to stand a shot at the ivies and that a 77% isn’t great at all. I’m being straightforward.

If that guy wants to apply to the ivies with a 77%, fine. But I’ve seen people (over the past two years) doing the same and failing miserably. There’s no harm in writing one extra essay or spending $80 more. But getting that rejection letter will hurt. A lot. I’m just advising him to apply to schools that are well within his reach and not set himself up for major disappointments next March

Did anyone here get into Caltech? I was waitlisted

Is it weird to bring 2 laptops to college? I mean one windows and macs, the windows is mostly for software etc, I’ll probably use the Mac for classroom stuff and lectures since its light. And you can bring 2 laptops on a plane right?

@potatoheadhala A friend from Delhi got in.

I got accepted in UCSD yesterday. Revelle, Computer Science.
Any other Indian here who got in?

No I did not receive a decision yet but I was accepted into UC Davis for CS.

Anyone who is going to attend UMich?

@oreolover123 Why don’t you join the facebook group for Mich admits?

@anotherdude I’m sorry if I misread your comments. I kind of feel bad about what I said. I agree with you to an extent.
@ThatBrownDude should also be realistic with his options.
Best of luck with your results.

Speaking of, How many of you applied to UChicago?
