I got into both University of Minnesota and Indiana University as an out of state student. My current major at both is economics but I think I will transfer to their undergrad business schools my sophomore year. Money is not a big concern because I will be doing ROTC to cover the last two years of college for me. As far as internship opportunity, ability to transfer schools within the university, and student life which do you (the foroum) think is a better pick? PS I’ve visited both campuses but I want to hear more opinions on the matter.
I can’t speak for Minnesota, but you can’t just transfer into Kelley (IU’s business school) from an economics major. Getting into Kelley requires lots of effort and planning. These are the requirements for gaining admission to Kelley after your freshman year:

IU has a great business school and a great career services office that will help you find jobs and internships. I am a current accounting student in Kelley and I’m very happy here. I can answer any specific questions you have, but it’s hard for me to give an overview of student life since every student is different.
I know it’s a hard process to transfer from one school to the next, but I was interested in what type of gpa most kids have in order to transfer from the school of liberal arts to Kelly school of business, and the precentage of kids trying to transfer who actually get in. Also slightly less related, what type of programs and internships available through Kelly set it apart from other undergrad business programs across the country. Thanks
I just read the link you sent me, from what I can tell if I get all As and Bs and a 3.5+ GPA and take the correct amount of credit hours it is automatic admission, and if not then they will consider other ECs while reading my application to switch schools. Is this right or is there other stuff I missed/wasn’t on the website?
I don’t understand why you want to start in economics and then switch though. If you know you want to do business, why not just start in business? You could consider minoring in economics.
You are basically reading it right, but you also have to take a specific combination of classes listed in the link. Most of these classes are business classes.
Completion of at least 12-13.5 credit hours from the following courses on the IU Bloomington campus:
-BUS-K 201 or BUS-K 303
Choose one additional option from this list: ENG-W 131*, BUS-C 104, BUS-C 204, BUS-L 201, or BUS-G202 AND
BUS-D270
Choose two additional options from this list: BUS-A 201, BUS-A 202, ECON-E 201, ECON-E 202, MATH-M 118,
MATH-M 119, ECON-E 370*, or BUS-A 100 and BUS-G 202"\
Ok thanks for the info also in response to your earlier question, at the time I was applying I didn’t know what I wanted to study and I was enjoying my government and Econ classes in school so I just picked economics as my major.
You should be able to email/call the admissions office and change your major to something in Kelley. I would do that because it will affect your orientation and advising experience freshman year.
