We live in a county in Indiana that UC offers reciprocity to. Even with in state tuition, the cost is way more than we can afford. I do know my kids can get the $5500 federal student loans. And that they need to be applying for scholarships. I am wondering about institutional grants. Would my kids qualify for any of these?
What are your child’s stats? GPA, test scores etc.
3.5 GPA, 1250 SAT, for my senior. I have two juniors who won’t take the SAT until December but one of them has a 3.8 GPA and the other is a 3.2 (I think). I realize they aren’t going to get any scholarships for being the perfect student with perfect scores. But when I do the Net Price Calculator on IU and Purdue’s websites, they get institutional grants. I know that the Net Price Calculator is just an estimate and it isn’t a real offer of anything. But when I do the Net Price Calculator on UC’s website, they don’t mention anything like that. I say that we are Ohio residents since the calculator can’t or doesn’t account for the Indiana residents that receive reciprocity.
UC offers some scholarships but our experience is that they aren’t super generous. My D had a 29 ACT and a 4.1W grade and she received a 2K per year plus a 6K per year for being out of state.
