I am currently a junior who is highly considering applying to Indiana University in the fall. I currently don’t meet both of the Kelley Direct Admit requirements of a 3.8 GPA and 1370 SAT. I am currently on track to finish my first three years of high school with a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.69 (on track for 4.3 GPA this year). For my test score I am targeting the high 1400s/low 1500s on the SAT. I am also involved in sports fall and spring seasons and am in multiple clubs. What do you think my chances are at a DA for Kelley if I fill out a petition this fall?
You should be fine if you need to petition in lieu of the automatic Direct Admit. I think they say, as long as one of your factors meet the requirements, petition should be successful. Where it becomes questionable is if both GPA and test score falls below the standard. Also, please keep in mind that these standards could change from one admissions year to the next. They could increase or decrease a standard for direct admit. And who knows, with this economic environment and the possibility of having an effect on higher education, those values could reasonable change.
I think you will probably get in. As long as you pay close attention to the dates and get your application and petition in early, you should be ok! Best of luck to you.
Thanks for the replies, I should also point out that I am an OOS student does this have a large impact on the petition process or is it negligible?
Well one thing to take into account is OOS cost, you may get less merit aid vs a direct admit, do you need any aid to attend?
Receiving aid isn’t my biggest priority, if my petition were to be accepted I would still most likely attend the school regardless of the amount of aid given.
I’m a junior with quite a few leadership roles and have taken many business classes throughout high school. However, I have a UW 3.57 and a W 3.95 GPA. I plan on shooting for 1400s for my SAT. What are my chances for direct admit or petition at least. Also, I am OOS.
As long as Kelley doesn’t increase their admissions standards for 2021 you will get in. Your weighted GPA fulfills the 3.8 requirement and as long as you score above a 1370 on your SAT you will get in.
Personally I’m in a tougher situation where I will have to petition as I will finish with a 3.71 weighted GPA. However, I am hoping that my petition gets accepted as I scored a 1490 on the SAT.
how does Kelley calculate your unweighted GPA for purposes of Direct Admission? I have a 3.81 UW GPA, if you give a 4 for any kind of A and a 3 for any kind of B, and you exclude my non-core classes (art, ceramics, gym). Does anyone know what scale Kelley uses to convert? Thanks.
@Kolesar99 kelley uses your highest gpa on your transcript. they don’t exclude any classes. its your gpa as a whole
They use weighted for Kelley DA…ACE is unweighted. They dont exclude any classes from what I could tell.
If you petition, you will get in. Almost everyone I know petitioned and got in. Kelley is weird and only looks at the GPA given on the transcript. My school didn’t weigh mine so it was a 3.79 and I still had to petition, which was stupid because if it was weighted it would have been like a 4.2 or higher.
Does ‘university pre div business’ mean I need to petition?
yes it does, and the petition closes on January 4th for priority consideration
First of all, extracurriculars don’t matter for the petition. It’s just grades, scores, and the essays.
Second of all: Dude, you’re fine. I promise you’ll get in. They accept kids all the time with SATs in the 1200s and GPAs lower than yours.
just petition if you don’t have a 3.8 weighted and a 1370. This includes test optional kids.
you’ll probably get in no need to worry, I got in with a 3.64 GPA with no test scores. but I think my essay was kinda strong tho
