indiana versus penn state

i jsut applied to Penn State before the priority deadline because I still have not heard from Indiana university of bloomington after a month. Please tell me if I have a chance at Penn State University Park.

male/maryland

3.85 uw 4.4 weighted GPA
1270 SAT (i gave up after the second try lol)
8 AP courses
Very good recommendations
Lots of extracuriculars
Part time job at american eagle outfitters (it's a very demanding job and it relates to business sorta)
major in business

if you have any ideas, feel free to post any opinions. if i get into both, which should i go to?? (disregard the scholarships and cost)

I had a 1260 (Actually a 1270 but they do a one day testing score). and a 3.5 and I got Accepted. You wern't supposed to send Recommendations though. I'd think you'd get in if I did. Except I'm in State. Maybe that makes a difference But I really don't know. Your probably In.

i only sent one recommendation and they said it was optional and i really wanna show them my character and not only my grades.

Joey - What is the "one day testing thing"? Don't they take best of all sittings? Are they taking old and new SAT or just new? Did you list a backup campus - or just UP? Are you starting in summer or fall? Mt stats are similar to yours - 1260 math and verbal and 3.6 weighted GPA.

you hava good shot, its all about the gpa, a high gpa/average SAT gives you a good shot

Yeah, I visited and on the Info Session. The Presenter said that Penn State Only takes the Math and Verbal combined from a ONE Day Sitting.

So you can't tak a math score from october and combinde it with a verbal score from june.

Luckily for me , my SAT score only went down from a 1270 TO a 1260.

I got into the Fall, So I can go Fall OR Summer whichever I want.

I believe you have to list a Back Up Campus, But I really didn't look into that, so I just put wilkes-barre to be stupid. I also didn't even DO the Essay or the activities, but I'm thinking I might have had an Advantage because I'm IN-State.

Okay - my best "one day" was 1250 - 680 verbal and 570 math on the old test. I was killer on analogies - but they took them off the new test - and I never got back to the 680 - although my math scores climbed a bit. So 1250 it will have to be. They do take weighted GPA though - right? I listed Harrisburg as 2nd choice since they have pre-med and I've got my sights set on dental school - but I think I'd go to Towon's honors program before I'd go to Harrisburg.

Its only right that qualified in-staters get first shot - your tax dollars at work. I'd feel the same way about Univ of Maryland - if I was smart enough. At least Penn State has rolling admissions. I have to wait until March to find out the ugly truth about my Terp rejection. I heard from Towson within two weeks of applying there back in early October - and hopefully I'll hear next week from UMBC and Catholic U. Then Penn State, Mount St Mary's and Villanova by Christmas. Loyola Maryland and Maryland in March and Delaware in April. I thought cruel and unusual punishment was against the law in this country - but this wait in inhumane!

So enjoy your news - in fact flaunt it - I would! :> GGT

march??? I was told everyone acceptances went out in february for maryland.

Their website says mid February - and a confirmation I received when I submitted online said by March. Oops - you're right! GGT

I got into Penn St University Park with a 3.6 and for one day sitting 1290, I also got into Indiana Bloomington. My guess is you'll get into both but if you get in to Penn St and Kelley School of Business at Indiana, Indiana might be the better idea, but PSU is better academically overall

Thnaks for your input. kelly is definitely a better business school than penn state and the tuition is also cheaper.
