Just received e-mail stating that I-Day has been moved from 27 June to 2 July. No reason given. Well that gives me 5 more days with my daughter (if she decides to accept)

^^^yes it does, and hopefully she will!

I got that email today too. I just mailed my acceptance back last friday. I'm glad its moved back a week but then again it will be a longer wait. Oh well more time to spend with the family and friends. Not a bad thing.

More time for the annual trip to Hershey Park, but more time to wait, too. I had just made a nice countdown system when I found out about the date change.

Looks like Plebe Summer is going to be a bit shorter this year. We are going to be starting basically right at the 4th of July. Does this mean that the summer is going to be a little bit more intense? or are they going to add time on at the end? Anyway good like and see you on July 4th (assuming no more changes)!

No, it simply means you'll finish later, I suspect? Who knows?

LOL

You will be starting on the 2nd of July. - if you think they will go "light" until after the 4th you need to re-calibrate!

Plebe summer starts in all earnest on Induction Day. Training evolutions will begin the day after, bright and early. Your only "reprieve," if you will, will be to watch the fireworks on the evening of July 4th. The 4th will not be a day of picnics and what not.

Back in my day, I-Day was right after the 4th (July 6, in fact). However, parents' WE was later, so the overall time was the same.

And, no, July 4th will NOT be a holiday for the plebes. During plebe summer, every day is the same other than Sunday. Sunday morning is usually free time and you can attend religious services if you desire. I vaguely recall that, in our day at least, we had some sort of relaxed schedule on Sunday afternoon and may even have had a bit of yard liberty -- but were not permitted to meet friends, relatives, etc. However, that may now have changed.

From what I've seen over the past four years, July 4th hasn't changed. There is a picnic on the PEP field for the plebes and then they watch the fireworks, but there's not supposed to be contact between the plebes and the crowd although that doesn't seem to deter many parents who come and watch and try to contact there plebe from the sidelines. Not a good idea!

I didn't mean to make it seem like I thought the fourth would be a holdiday. Just kind a benchmark for how late the summer starts.

I don't remember anything significant about the 4th. We visited Memorial Hall and I got on crutches that day. When we got food we talked but after that we had to stay with our respective companies and if anyone tried to go to a different one (like if you knew them from NAPS) they got yelled at. And we got yelled at for laying down to watch the fireworks. Oh plebe summer. How I don't miss it.

How the 4th has changed in the past few years...
I actually remember alot from the 4th. After pep my roommate was puking in the sink, and then when we were on the bulkhead he projectile vomited, almost hitting our XO... But as far as fireworks go, I remember marching over to rip miller, sitting in formation, indian style, right hand right knee, left hand left knee etc etc etc.... We were allowed to say sir ooh sir, and sir ahh air, but that was about all.

As a cadre I have to admit that I missed the picnic as I took an overnight for the fourth and met up with a couple friends from georgetown.... and then the next morning I got bad reports from other cadre... so yeah, that was an interesting lunch

I think the first phone call my son (2010) got to make was just after July 4th. He said the ice cream was a real treat and watching the fireworks was a bit of a break. However, even that was regimented as each company had to compete on how loud they could "Ou" "Aghh" as the fireworks got more complex!

Any update posted yet on PPW at the end of the summer?
USNA calendars show classes beginning on Aug 18th - but no mention of PPW or Brigade Reform.

I'm sorry- this is pretty random and unimportant- I just didn't want to start a whole new thread.

Does anyone know if someone who is still seventeen has to get a bunch of papers signed by their parents/guardians during Plebe Summer/I-day?

Rumor is out that there is no Plebe Parent Weekend any more.

Go to the oficial USNA calendar, and see if it has been scheduled. I could not find it last week when I first heard the rumor. Aligned with the rumor is that the later scheduling of I day takes into account the elimination of PPW, so there is no break between Plebe Summer and reform.

Lots of changes.
CM

If this is true it sounds like the Supe is trying to make every academy mom in the country hate him. How do they expect the plebes to go out and get all of the supplies that they need for the ac year (printers, irons, ironing boards, etc...)?

PPW is not currently on the schedule, but the calendars are not completely up to date. The 13-14 May schedule still lists "shuttle busses for Plebe recognition events" even though those events have reportedly been cancelled, based on the published PAO quote from last week.

If USNA is trying to be just like the Fleet, some form of graduation ceremony may be held at the end of Plebe Summer, just as Great Lakes holds ceremonies at the end of new recruit training. Or not.

As far as the direct deposit info, we made a joint account since our mid was 17. Its actually been really convenient as I can check his balance and add to it as needed.

how do plebes get this stuff if they don't have parents at PPW?

If is any consolation - the only date published for West Point is R-day. Rumor has it that Beast is extended to 7 weeks from 6 weeks and there is no date for the march-back, A-day (in August) or parent weekend (in October) yet.
