So I'm looking at my Spanish Placement Exam (took at orientation) results online, and it says I didn't earn any credit from my exam!! I was in Spanish 5 AP, there is NO way I'm going to take Introductory Spanish...I honestly think this is a mistake!! Who can I go to complain about this? :( No, I'm not fluent, but I'm definitely not "introductory." I got a 3 on the Spanish Lit AP exam.

You can’t really complain to anyone about that… It’s probably because you did poorly on the placement exam that they refused to give credit.

Out of curiosity do you mind me asking what your score was?

The class will be really easy for you then, and you’ll pull an A with minimal effort. Plus you’ll keep your Spanish in practice.

Is it possible that you didn’t submit your essay in time? A friend of mine said he thought it would submit automatically once the time ran out, but instead it gave him a score of zero.

It is a new system they are using this year, right?

Can someone tell me how the system/test works?

I just have to say that your username is perfect for this thread.

eclipze: It’s a completely computerized test. The first part is 65 (?) multiple choice questions. You have to listen to like four audio clips of people speaking Spanish, and this isn’t slow-paced, watered down Spanish, it’s clips from real conversations and commercials and such so you really have to pay attention… then you have to answer questions about what was said. The rest of the questions are correction exercises and reading comprehension questions… and then the last part is an essay… you get 20 minutes to do the essay, and if you don’t submit it before the 20 minutes is up (I had like 4 seconds left) you get a score of zero on the writing part. It’s not an easy test, but somehow I managed to place out of two semesters (*shameless self-promotion *)

Also, to the OP: you can always just retake the test.

I think that the web site still says you can only take it once; have they realized it is not always working right so they are letting people retake it? Spanish

Oh, I didn’t know you could only take it once… I was just assuming you could just retake it at a different time of the year if you weren’t happy with your results the first time around.

I’m pretty sure you can’t take any of the placement tests more than once. That was the case with chemistry as well.

How about tests for Chinese and Japanese? Do they include essay as well?

The Chinese test is multiple choice. I think its only listening and reading, no speaking or writing sections.

How about the french one?!
