Info needed on summer (leap) program

how could you NOT want to do summer session?
sure, it's 'eating' your summer, but you're only taking like two classes. that's easy as hell. i'm chillin' right now with two ap classes (we have block scheduling...4 classes a day) and a philosophy college class at psu abington.
i want to get outta here and get to college asap!

well summer at PSU is kinda hot. No A/C in the dorms sucks from what I have been told. Looking back, I wish I would of done it though. Summer before college gets pretty boring.

And on to the i'll google that for you link....Let me google that for you

you go here and type in the question the person wants and then copy and paste the link for the response it gives.

did some research today on penn state summer session...I am very excited about the intensive launguage instititute, being that I wish to study french for the first time (studied Latin for 4 years in HS)...my question is, considering I was accepted for summer session 09, does participating in the intensive language institute (12 credits over 8 weeks) mean that I am fulfilling the summer session requirement?

This may seem like a dumb question, but considering it is not LEAP or any of their freshman summer session category, I was wondering if it still applied.

ew that does not sound fun. Was never a language person. Forced myself through 3 years of latin in HS.

I have no clue here.

I've got a question cw. I was accepted to summer. Would it be possible for me to get around this by studying abroad this summer? I looked at the international studies page but was unable to find anything definite. There are programs for freshman, but would PSU allow me to do a program this summer instead of summer session? Do you know anyone who has done this?

ewwwww???? what do you mean ewww!!??? lol i will have to email summer session on that one then...and as for bwm814, i suggest you do the same because our questions are semi-related. if you find out on that study abroad option, please post the answer here as i am qutie curious as that sounds like a good idea!

so basically, leap is kind of like a group thing? someone also told me once that you live on the same floor as the kids in your "pride." is that true

So wait, you have to pay an EXTRA fee if you're submitted for the summer session? Ay Dios m

as far as i know mkc, it is not true... your pride and floormates are intentionally different.
you go to your two classes with your pride and interactwith them academically and your floormates are an entirely different set of people than your pride...this is designed to give you as much exposure to different groups of people and to make friends

dont quote me on that tho i could be getting that mixed up from what a student who did LEAP recently told me

Nope, you don't room with kids from your pride. When our S was in LEAP last year, most of the kids from his pride weren't even in the same dorm as he was.

sorry for asking the same question so many times...

but one more question, what date do they start summer? and how long will it take?

Summer 2009 Calendar

My d was accepted for summer session and is considering LEAP. Her is what I understand from all the material - you are not obligated to do LEAP, you can just take 2 classes of your choice. With LEAP though you are placed with 24 other students in each of the two classes and even live near them in the dorm. My thinking is that she doesn't know anyone else going for summer session so this might be a good way to meet people . Regarding summer session, my d had lower SAT's than what is normally accepted. However, her grades are excellent so she checked off summer and that is where she was placed. Since then I have spoken with a number of prior students who went and loved it. One told me it was the best summer of their lives. Once you get past leaving right after high school graduation I think it is okay. In choosing a "pride" my daughter is going in undeclared so I told her to pick something that was a gen ed requirement anyway (several of them are).

I got admitted for Fall, and I've heard so many people saying how their summer program at Penn State was one of their best summers. Should I consider LEAP then? Is it worth it?

I guess it just depends on whether you think you would benefit from going early and if you don't mind giving up most of your summer. For some, that would be a deal breaker. I think you have to know yourself - do you acclimate easily, do you think you will do okay arriving on campus with 40,000 others? Also are your familiar with the campus? I have one friend whose d was admitted for fall but her brother is already a student there and she has spent a lot of time there over the last few years. She says her daughter just wouldn't need this. In my d's case though I think it will help her adjust to a large environment.

I'm international, so I think going there with a few people first would be better. Hmm, I'm thinking about it. Thanks for the help!
