I am going on exchange to UCSC (from the Netherlands) in fall for 1 trimester (??) and I am now choosing a college. From what I have heard Kresge sounds like a place I'd really enjoy living.

Therefore I was wondering whether anyone here could tell me about Kresge.. I'm not sure what I want to know.. but just, whatever would be really nice!

Wow, Netherlands, that's awesome. What part are you from (sorry this is like a standard question I ask, since some in-laws are from there).

Anyway, even though I'm techinically not a UCSC student yet, one of my friend's sisters lives in Kresge. And one of my older friends lived there, so I thought I'd give you what little info I know.
Though they both lived in apartments, so I'm talking about that aspect of it.

They said it was nice, generally, but they didn't meet as many people as they did when staying in dorms because an apartment is a bit more secluded. But since Kredge is for upper classman moreso, it was a good way to meet people (my friend was a transfer) in the same grade level, if being friends with people the same year is important to you, because the dorms are a lot of freshmen or sophmores I'm assuming you're older.

But they said the kitchen made up for it because the food at UCSC gets a little repetative. And also that the people they roomed with for an apartment, they became really close friends.

I forget which college it is 9 or 10, but I've heard that it was mainly focused on international students. If that's important to you, check it out.

The poster before me was referring to the International Living Center (ILC) where most foreign nationals and exchange students live. I heard the transition's easier -- being around people who must learn how the American system works, how the quarter sytems works, etc.

If you do have the opportunity to live in a place other than ILC, and are a "typical" Netherlander (I base this only on people I've met from Amsterdam), Krege would be a good option for you. No mean plan/dining rooms for the most part, because you have a kitchen. Means are communal and the people are politically active, but chill. Good vibe, you'll love it.

Sorry I worded it awkwardly, I meant that the dorms (other colleges) are mostly lower classmen (and yes I know there aren't only lower classmen, but they are definitely the majority) and that the apartments are Kresge are mostly upper classmen.

"That's not true at all - ALL THE COLLEGES HAVE MIXED UPPER AND LOWER CLASS."

Dude calm down, I didn't say that they weren't mixed I said the MAJORITY definition: 50% or more, are lowerclassmen. But since Kresge is apartments I know, since I was told by several people who go or used to go to UCSC, that there are MORE upperclassmen in KRESGE.
