Info on Mitchell Hall?

Hey guys, this is for current students or anyone really who knows anything at all about Mitchell Hall. I am considering swapping into a Mitchell single from a Madison quad, but before I do, I am looking for any information at all on Mitchell Hall. Any experiences in community bathrooms, living in a single room, making friends that way, the visitor policy at Mitchell Hall, like I know in Thurston you have to sign in everyone without a Thurston room key, is it similar in Mitchell? Or is it not monitored at all? How are the facilities in Mitchell? And any other information you may have at all.

Thanks so much!

hello I am a current gwu student, as this post has not been replied to i will answer your question about the dorms. I will list the pros and cons of both dorms. Yet I STRONGLY recommend staying in madison quad.

In Madison hall you will first have to note that the dorm is soooo close to everywhere you want to go Trust me when you are a freshmen and you get used to the school…
you will be start to notice that madison is in a great location.
you are 30 sec away from the library… 20sec away from starbucks and the Marvin center if you know where that is…
the Madison Hall is believed to be the best Freshman dorm… I kinda feel for trying to switch out because you got a quad… not as good as a double yet madison’s quad is really big and it feels like a double when you get there you will know and last year they were fixing the elevators. the elevatiors were the only con of madison… and now they fixed it.

well for mitchell it is nice that you get your own room and you might be worried that you wont have any friends becuase you are in a single. dont worry the first week everyone will ask for you name… its so werid… they aer sooo friendly the first week the second week everyone is not friendly anymore…
but single is also a good choice yet fi you live therer you will regret that it is not close to anything. like during the winter you will regret. most ppl just dont like the fact that its so far away…

from my anaylis of the ppl living in both dorm. only compaint from madison is that the elevators are soo !!! slow…

for mitchel its sooo far…

i mean this is what lazy college students think. BTW madison always are filled with kind ppl they are not the hard core partyers but they are the ones who know how to chill party and study. it has the best atmosphere as a dorm.
if you live in mitchell the sounds from the on thursday-saturday nights might get you from thurston… and thurston is dirty. puke everyweek on at least 1 floor. no kidding you will know once you go there… Mitchell has the disadvantages of a shared bathroom… you have to remember that the everysingle room in madison has their own bathrooms.

as for the facilities… shared bathrooms… ?? what do you expect…
madison is very clean… really… not kidding.

it all depends on you personality. if you are friendly go to madison. if you are friendly yet you want your own private space go to mitchell. in mitchell some floors have a good friendly atmosphere yet some floors are dead silent and awkword and no one talks to each other. its a roll of a dice.

If you havent notice i am trying to convince you to stay in madison… but that doesnt mean i was lying about mitchell… [if you stay in madison you wont regret it… trust me on this one]

Madison Hall, the best freshmen dorm? Hahahaha cute!

 • Potomac House

And that really is the best part of Madison. Location is usually what makes or breaks a dorm. @IN_DC if you’re set on getting a single, if that’s what’s most important to you, then apply for the swap. Some people really like their privacy so in those cases the locational offerings of Madison might not outweigh the quad. Can we get more information on what’s really driving this issue of yours? Another thing to consider: you probably won’t be in a single all 4 years (or however long you’re on campus) so if you have an issue with living with others you might have to just suck it up and learn to deal with it (if living with 3 other people is your main driver for wanting to leave).

Potomac House is definitely the nicest dorm but it still has the locational drawbacks of Thurston and Mitchell. Maybe it’s nice being by 50% of your student class, but I’d rather be closer to academic buildings, food, and student gathering spots.
