Inroads 2009-2010

Did anyone apply to the INROADS program for the year 2009-2010 and received an offer? I applied in September and still did not receive a response. Also I live in New York.

Hi,

I’m also in the INROADs program. You’re a little late in the game if you haven’t gotten a response from your coordinator yet, but I can tell you a couple reasons why you may not have received ANY response (which is what I think you’re saying).

INROADs is mainly career training, and if you meet the minimum criteria, you’re pretty much accepted. Getting an internship is the hard part; according to someone else on CC (I forgot who), you have a 1/2.5 in getting an internship from this program.

So, if you haven’t heard back yet, you probably did not complete all your application requirements and/or upload all the needed documents. Double check your INROADs status on their website. Another possibility is that your coordinator forgot to contact you. Send him/her an email an make sure your app wasn’t misplaced (this happened to me). Third, you might not have met their diversity requirements.

Good luck!

Hmm thanks for your reply. I have checked and I have submitted everything. My resume is updated as well. My application is complete.

I meet the diversity requirements since I am an Asian American; however I read past posts on collegeconfidential in which numerous students claim that INROADS do not put any efforts to finding an internship for Asian students. My friend also didn’t get a response and we both applied in September.

And I emailed my coordinator and did not receive a response.

What internship did you get?

And Oh wells, I will work on SEO Career Program instead next year.

For future reference (when students are looking up posts/questions/answers), I would like to share my answer.

In short, I am a sophomore studying Information Technology at a small university. I applied through INROADS late last year in October. I really had to be patient in the whole process. I wasn’t sure how long each phase of the process would take or how rather how long it would take to receive a call after completing my application and scheduling lets say a mock interview.

Needless to say I have been persistent AND patient during this whole process. I made sure I kept myself busy applying to other internships while waiting for the whole process to run its course.

Good news? I learned my representative was preparing to source me to several firms including HCA (Health Care America), Deloitte, and Amsurg. I was first sourced to Deloitte and received an interview with big four - Deloitte early April. I interviewed on the 8th of April and finally received a summer internship offer on the 20th of April. I am really excited about the offer and would really encourage everyone to apply.

Take everything everyone says for face value and try it for yourself. Work on being persistent and be prepared to show that you really want to succeed in whatever you do and an internship will help you.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM or ask here.

hey sweet butterfly, could you give me some advice? I’m an incoming college freshman, planning for an internship in the summer of 2011. So inroads doesn’t actually help you get internships? It just helps you write, essentially, a resume? Is your story one in a million, b/c most of what I’ve read online speaks quite poorly s to the validity of the program. what region of the country are you in? How should I approach the candidate prep sessions, etc?
