I have just finished my sophomore year at Cal, and I wanted to know how possible is a WINTER quarter inter-uc transfer to UCLA, UCSD, UCI, and/or UCR. I have completed all of the prereqs for any bio-related major, but I have not completed all of the GEs for Berkeley, and probably not completed all the GEs for the other UCs as well. How possible is a WINTER 2009 quarter transfer? How possible is a SPRING 2009 quarter transfer? How possible is a FALL 2009 quarter transfer? (If anyone knows offhand: How possible is a Winter/Spring/Fall transfer to USC?)

I am planning to take time off at least from now until Dec (if I get winter quarter admission) to study and take the MCAT.

My Berkeley stats: 3.38 GPA (will that hurt me?)
I have 2 publications through my research at UCSF and Stanford.
Do they ask for SAT scores on the transfer app? 2360/2400

I just don't think Berkeley is the place for me and I would like to be in SoCal, closer to home. I am super worried that a Winter/Spring quarter transfer is impossible, and a Fall quarter transfer will be hard too because of the CC kids having priority.

Thanks a lot. I really appreciate your honest responses. I can give more info if needed.

Truthfully I don't know much about inter-UC transfer but I think you have a good chance of getting into UCSD, UCI, and UCR, and fair chance at getting into LA.

My only concern is your eligibility. I think most universities, in general, don't accept junior applicants. You should definitely check that out and make sure ur under their credit cap.

In regards to applying to USC:
If USC is the only private universities ur planning to apply to, I don't think it's really worth it. The process is extremely cumbersome -- you need prof recs, seconday school reports, etc. Nevertheless you certainly have a shot there (assuming ur eligible), athough ur GPA is slightly on the low side.

Winter and Spring transfer is impossible, unless you're an Engineering major then I believe you have a chance of being admitted for winter.

Your GPA is a bit low, considering that you will be pitted against CC students with near perfect and 4.0 GPA's.

What is your major? This would be a deciding factor, whether or not your major is impacted.

Two publications is very impressive. I say you might as well try. But you should of applied in the fall in order to attend UCLA/UCSD/etc in the fall.

You've got an awesome chance at UCSD. But as you ALREADY attend a prestigious 4 year institution, they might not have an inclination to give your admittance. Write about your reasons in your essay, hopefully they'll read it.

Maybe take a year off and apply in the fall? As they do not accept Senior transfers.

First off, UC to UC transfers are held on a completely different standard than CC transfers.
Secondly, yes it is true they give priority transfers to CC to UC students however they do reserve slots for people transferring from different institutions.
Thirdly, 3.38 GPA at Cal is very impressive by anyone's standards. So just be legit, state your circumstances and get to know people that actually know their stuff about your situation (guidance counselor).
Lastly, go for it dude. Better to have tried and failed than not tried at all. Live you life without regrets. If you put 100% and it doesn't work out for you then try to tough out 2 more years of Cal.

Your major will determine it. UCLA does not discriminate between CC applicants and UC intercampus transfers, but the other UCs do. Your low GPA will hurt you, but provided you have a less competitive major, you’ll be fine.

Check out UCLA’s transfer stats for your major for the past few years. If your GPA is around the average, you’ll be ok.

Oh, and for GEs, if you finish all your GEs at Cal, all of the UCs will accept your GEs as completed. It’s called UC Reciprocity.
