What is the average GPA for an interdisciplinary studies major? Also, if you are one, please share your experience, career goals?

Also, I'm planning on going to Medical school. On the website, it says this major is not recommended for students pursuing a science career, do you agree?

I would like to tailor my studies around a thematic concentration in global health, and possibly take courses at the school of public health.... *just thoughts right now

(I'm transferring in as a Junior in the Fall)

Hi,

I considered doing a custom major–Comparative Classics; however, decided against it. It was (and still is) my goal to gain a solid foundation on both the Western and Eastern traditions through studying the classic texts of each. I found that creating my own major–through Interdisciplinary Studies–wasn’t necessary. Typically, within your major, you have so many electives that often, it isn’t too difficult to get pretty in-depth in a particular subject outside your major. So, in the end, I chose Classics, but am still able to pursue my interest outside my specialty.

Also, you should STRONGLY consider getting your degree through the school of Global Health. I believe it is one of the top two in the country.

^Thanks for your advice! I’m actually very interested in global health, spec with infectious diseases such as malaria, HIV/aids, and mdrtb. I’ve also done a lot of research in that field. Do you know if I could attend the school of global health (public health) an undergrad? And, is there a separate application?

Thanks!

Like other colleges within the university (i.e. Arts and Sciences, Journalism and Communication, Education, etc.), Gillings is open to undergraduates. But, it looks like it does require a separate application:

[UNC School of Public Health - Undergraduate studies information](http://www.sph.unc.edu/student_affairs/undergraduate_studies_information_958_8996.html)

I think I will apply once I complete my first semester at UNC. I appreciate your help! =)
