Hi! My daughter and I will be visiting RIT later this summer. Does anyone have recommendations for hotels and restaurants (moderate price range) nearby?
The best hotel would likely be the Radisson Hotel Rochester Airport. Despite the name it’s actually right on the edge of campus and should be relatively inexpensive this time of year.
In terms of restaurants, I would highly recommend taking the 15 minute drive downtown to get a feel for the city as well. Dinosaur BBQ, Tony D’s Pizza, The Owl House, and Jine’s Restaurant are all popular, moderately priced options there.
I second the Radisson-Airport. RIT is a great school!
What does she want to study?
We like the Home2Suites, a few minutes down the road. Do go into Rochester to eat!
Thanks so much for the great suggestions! We will definitely go into Rochester to eat, as you have said. My daughter will be a senior this year, and she wants to study American Sign Language Interpreting. I know that the program is part of the NITD so there would be a lot of interaction with students who are deaf or hearing impaired, and that appeals to her, because she thinks she would learn a lot more that way. Anyone have information about that program? We have requested a visit, still waiting to hear back.
I really like eating along the Erie Canal, east of the city a few miles, out in Pittsford. There are numerous restaurants, and a paved walkway/bikeway along the canal that is amazing during the summer. Be sure to check out the Pittsford Dairy, just a block from the canal in Pittsford.
I just posted my visit report for RIT. We liked the school and the NTID ASL interpreting program very much! Wish it was closer to home because the 9 hour drive, and return drive the next day were really the only negative! Seems a great fit for daughter…
We’ve stayed at the Hampton Inn Henrietta and had a good experience. It’s <10 minutes from campus and near the area shopping centers. I’d agree - definitely get into Rochester too and check things out.
Based on that we’re staying there again in a few weeks to drop my son off at RIT, and then again 2 weeks later for orientation.
@dbjs70 , I hope he will have a great first year. I know it is hard to be preparing to send my older daughter off to college again…did your son have some AP credits to help him fulfill some of the gen ed requirements? I am hoping DD17 will be able to get credit for some gen eds…
@2kidsinky, yes my S has AP credits, and we hope some dual enrollment credits from HS.
Best of luck to you in the application process.
We got some very good results with dual enrollment credits from a N Y S community college. They were pretty generous.
