My son is attending a summer program at Eastman, and we have to spend the night on either end (length of drive to get there).

Can anyone recommend a good, not too expensive, but accessible to the campus hotel? I looked on the website, and there are a lot of choices, but I thought I'd ask those in the know.

My son is a junior so we've been there many times. The best place to stay, by far, is the Strathallan http://www.strathallan.com/. It is on UR's list and you get a preferred rate if you say you are visiting UR. It is barely any more than a motel and it is a really nice all-suite hotel with a kitchen.

The first time we went to UR we stayed in the city at the Hyatt on the list because we thought there would be so much to do. There wasn't and we paid a lot and had a long drive for nothing. The next time we stayed at an airport motel which was in a crummy neighborhood. Then we decided to try the Strathallan. We've never gone anywhere else. Not much more money than the airport motel, great quaint neighborhood near all the museums and nice restaurants and wonderful hotel.

Anyone know how far the Residence Inn is from the university? We're staying there for Admitted Students Day on Monday. (I followed the Strathallen link, and while it looks lovely, it was very expensive - over $200 for a one-bedroom suite. We're paying around $150 for the same suite at the Residence Inn. Do you get a better deal if you book further in advance?)

We stay at the Marriott Courtyard Rochester Brighton - close to campus- restaurants nearby ( across the parking lot ). They also have a UR rate.

The ones I stayed at during D's four year gig at the River Campus included, the Courtyard, Hampton Inn and the Welseley Inn, all across from Monroe Comm College, and, as a previous poster said easy access to restaurants. Of these most stays were at the Hampton, which offered a UR rate. Wels. Inn was cheap, but in need of serious updates.

jwmom, I just looked at the website - they didn't mention a Rochester rate. But thanks for the reminder - I just called the Residence Inn and they reduced the rate for the suite we're in! If she decides to go to Rochester, I'll definitely check out the Rochester rates at Strathallen.

i stayed at the holiday inn airport hotel when i was up there, which is convenient... you can have them take you to/from the uni/airport and don't even need a taxi. also call for a reservation instead of doing it online, and make sure you tell them you're a uni student, you can get a discount for that.

I just got us a reservation for a one bedroom suite at the Strathallan for $119, URochester or Eastman rate! I thought that was a great deal! Thanks for the recommendation!

Priceline is good in Rochester. Check out the bids on biddingfortravel.com or BetterBidding.com. Don't bid downtown. Bid $50, 2 1/2 stars on Rochester South and you'll likely get the Doubletree in Henrietta. It's a good hotel recently renovated.

Be sure you know the ins and outs of Priceline though.
