Interesting Situation: Chances For Highly Selective Schools

Current Junior

GPA: 3.5 UW school doesn't weight GPA

School: New England boarding school. School sends a good number of kids to top colleges but isn't considered at the top tier of boarding schools.

Prospective Major: Math and Economics

AP's:
AB Calculus
Statistics
Spanish
US History
Economics (senior year)
Literature (senior year)
English Language (senior year)
European History (senior year)

My senior year I will be taking Multivariable Calculus and doing an independent study in Spanish in addition to the 4 previously mentioned APs

Extracurriculars
- Cross Country (4 years)
- Volleyball (3 years)
- Jazz Ensemble (4 years)
- Percussion Ensemble (4 years. Have performed at Dartmouth and UMASS)
- Math Team (3 years)
- Peer Tutor

Leadership
- Disciplinary Committee
- Resident Leader (boarding school equivalent of RA)
- Academic Honor Board

Community Service
- Tutoring Elementary schoolers in Math and Spanish
- Volunteer work with the Homeless during the summer

Standardized Tests
SAT: 2260
I plant on taking Math 2, Spanish, and US History SAT 2's

Based on this what are my chances at the following schools:

Washington and Lee (have been maintaining dialogue with admissions since my sophmore year)

Claremont Mckenna

Sewanee: University of the South

University of Rochester

University of Richmond

Wake Forest

Tufts

Wesleyan (my school sends a number of people here)

Bucknell

You have a good shot at most of those schools. Claremont McKenna is a big reach with your GPA, especially since the acceptance rate is like 15% or less now. Your ECs are good but not great… I’d say that URichmond and Bucknell are low matches, Sewanee is a safety, and Wake Forest, URochester and maybe Washington and Lee are lower matches. Tufts, CMC and Wesleyan are bigger reaches.

A good friend’s son had very similar stats to you and was wait-listed at Wake (and he is a legacy), Richmond and Bucknell but was admitted to Washington and Lee (attending).

My son, with slightly lower SATs, but higher GPA was admitted to Wake (attending) and Richmond (and others which are not on your list).

Thus, I think you have a good chance at most on your list - its just so hard to predict!

Good luck!
