Internal Transfer CMU (Please Help!)

Hello, I was accepted at the College of Fine Arts for Carnegie Mellon and was not accepted in H&SS. Is there a way I can re-apply to get into H&SS, if so how difficult is that? And I want to double major in Fine Arts and Global Studies (which is in H&SS) is that possible? Thank you so much for your responses!

Hi,

I used to be in H&SS. It is quite relaxed. I believe the requirement is to maintain a 3.0 GPA to transfer internally from CFA. That is what my sophomore year roommate did. I would recommend you go ahead and do that. Talk to your advisor later this summer to discuss your plans.

Some more information is here: <a href=“Transferring In - Academic Advisory Center - Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences - Carnegie Mellon University”>http://www.cmu.edu/hss/advisory-center/transferring/transfer-in.html</a></p>

Double majoring should be no problem, and you shouldn’t even have to apply to do that. You can just declare it and then your CFA major will be your “primary major” and Global Studies will be an “additional major.” If you do want to transfer, in order to make Global Studies your primary major, then you will have to apply to transfer to Dietrich (H&SS). Transferring into Dietrich is generally not very hard to do. A 3.0 QPA would almost surely get you in, but I imagine you can get by with less than that. However transfer applications are dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
