internal transfer to Archi?

I applied and got accepted to the school of engineering .. however, now i'm interested in Architecture. Is it difficult or even possible to transfer there if I go to Rice?

i know a guy who transferred from MechE to architecture last year.

That said, I doubt it's easy.

depends on how you measure that. if you mean the success rate is low, that's probably wrong. the success rate, or acceptance rate i guess, is probably pretty high because very few people even try. i know another girl who transferred from art i think. i've never heard of someone of being denied.

of course you have to be very good, but as a pointer the mechE person i know took some architecture classes freshmen year--that is actually the reason he transferred in, and i'm sure helped him explain why the department should consider him.

also, i have a good friend who is a mechE and wants to be an architect but has no desire to transfer into the architecture program. he takes his engineering courses along with art and design courses, and wants to go to an architecture grad school. i was led to believe that this is a perfectly good and normal path to take to be an architect. it could be even a better way to go for some people.

so what's the procedure like to apply for a transfer? and.. what is required to do so? do you think it is possible to transfer as a freshman??

i would take some architecture classes and see if you actually want to do the program first. talk to some archis and see how they live and work. it is a grueling program, and 6 years total. yes those people i know who transferred were freshmen at the time because it is easier to do then than later because 4 years of design i believe are required for the program (i.e., they are staying an extra year as it is).
