Internal transfer to UMCP engeering program

Hey, this is my first discussion page. Like me many are in dilemma on how to transfer from letters and sciences to engeering. That's why I created this discussion. Can anyone explain in detail about how this is done.
Thanks

No need to reinvent the wheel. There are several threads that have addressed/discussed this

There are also other threads with general info about the engineering program.
Congrats on your admission to Maryland! :)

Yay, this is exactly what I am looking for. Sorry I didn’t notice those that’s why I created this

@maryversity Is there a student based account for UMD like MyUMBC

Yes it is my.umd.edu. Your university ID (UID) should be noted on your hard copy letter of admission, if I recall. Honestly couldn’t tell you more than that…perhaps others will be able to share. I’m sure they will give you all that info at accepted student days…book early if you plan to go since they do fill up quickly…

@maryversity can we transfer to honors engineering from letters and sciences with in a semester.

@Tommybo - you are talking about more than one thing…

  1. transfer from letters and sciences within a semester? I suppose that is possible…you have to successfully complete the gateway requirements <a href=“Transfer to Maryland Engineering | A. James Clark School of Engineering, University of Maryland”>Transfer to Maryland Engineering | A. James Clark School of Engineering, University of Maryland; are the deadlines for applying
    "Deadline for Submission

5th business day of January for spring semester admission and June for fall semester admission

The 5th business day is not necessarily the 5th day of the month. You can submit your application early; however you will not receive an admission response until after the deadline, when the applications are processed.
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions does not hold any applications for the next semester. If you miss the deadline, you will need to resubmit for the next deadline."

“honors engineering” can be two separate things
2. honors college (with engineering major) is something you can apply to at the completion of your freshman year http://honors.umd.edu/prospective-current.php</a> and applications are due by August 1

departmental honors for engineering students <a href=“Engineering Honors Program | A. James Clark School of Engineering, University of Maryland”>http://www.eng.umd.edu/current/honors-program</a> is something that you can apply to after you complete 60 credits (typically at end of sophomore year) if you are in the top fourth of juniors and seniors.

Thx u @maryversity What about placement tests? I mean when I visited UMD website they only gave info about Math! so, that means no English?

Correct, no placement exam for English. Everyone has to take a total of two English classes - freshman English which is ENGL101 (academic writing) and junior English which is ENGL393 (professional writing). The only way to get exempted from ENGL101 is to score a 4 or 5 on the English AP language and composition exam.

The placement exam for math is to ensure that you have the foundations required for college math since there is variation in the high school curricula. The highest “placement” you can get is MATH140, but if you get a 4 or 5 on the AP Calc BC exam, you can start at a higher level math like MATH241.
