I applied to GWU as an International Affairs major with a concentration in Conflict Resolution. I want work in the humanitarian field. GW also has a Peace Studies major which is a part of the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences, and not the Elliot School of International Affairs. My question is, which is the better choice? Is this Elliot School more respected/more prestigious? Would I have the same opportunities in both programs? Thanks!
An International Affairs degree from the Elliot School will be more prestigious than a Peace Studies degree from CCAS. I can’t speak too much on the “opportunities available” for both, but I assume that, given the prestige of the Elliot School, you’d be better off with them.
If you get accepted, I recommend that you speak with an adviser in the Elliot School (you’ll be assigned to one) and let them know about your intentions/interests. There’s nothing wrong with potentially shifting course during your first year or two at GW. Many have done it before.
Good luck!
