International Baccalaureate Program

I am in an IB program. I am working very hard and feel as if I am really learning to be a scholar. Unfortunately my grades have slipped and I am concerned. The program's director tells me that admission committees understand that the program is challenging and will understand the work that it takes to get a B in an IB program. Is this true? I am anxious about my situation.

My grades have dropped a tiny bit while in the IB program, but schools I have gotten accepted to gave me more scholarship money than they would if those were my grades in normal classes because I was in IB. I think you will be fine, just make sure you have some back up schools on your list when you apply.

2paths, my school did the same thing. They deflated our grades. My classmates and I went to our IB Coordinator and he said that getting a C is normal, and that we should not look badly upon it because colleges will know that it’s “IB” and whatnot.

I disagree. I think its horrible. There is some kid out there who goes to a school that will not deflate grades, so they get an A in their class while some of us get C’s for the same amount of work (or more).

Will colleges understand this? Not a top 20 school, they have IB/AP students with straight A’s. Would lower (lower in not a bad way) understand? Yeah.

I agree with Blackrose. Top colleges will expect As whether it’s IB or AP. All colleges appreciate rigorous course work.
