Wasn’t that question asked in an overall sense? O_O

In the Artifact/Hiking passage, several people have suggested that the answer to the questions regarding the lines where the author did not find the water bodies (4 I think) was that the map was misleading.
Why can’t the answer be “the author did not find what she was looking for”. She was clearly looking for water and did not find it. That the map misled her is subject to whether she was correctly reading the map in the first place.
Can anyone explain this to me?

@jak321 I chose the author did not find what she was looking for but I looked at the passage yesterday and the answer was “map mislead her”. There was exactly a sentence paraphrased “map misleader her” in the passage.

Thanks.
Goodbye 800 then
-3 (or worse) in CR
-1 in math (careless mistakes again)
-2 in writing…
Best case scenario.
I also wanted to ask if one mistake in maths translates to a 52 or 53 in raw score. What is the expected score for 1 mistake in grid in maths…

Curves for 2008 November tells us -1 in math is 760… seriously… this test was horrible :(

For CR, I heard -7 wrong 0 omit gets you 700

From 2008 November thread. they had the same test so the curve is same unfortunatley :(

http://www.erikthered.com/tutor/SAT-Released-Test-Curves.pdf
Looking at this curve, isn’t -1 in math a 780? (10/08)

but this test was taken in 11/08 not 10/08. wish it would be 780 for -1 in math. please… 760 is like -2 -3 in other tests!!!

wait… Jan 11 had this test too, right? so -1 in math should be 770. based on thishttp://www.erikthered.com/tutor/SAT-Released-Test-Curves.pdf

^No, the curves are for a different exam. -1 in math IS 760.

^Junaid:
I chose the latter one but I think I got it wrong as others agreed that it was the first. Damn- that could be the final straw from a 800…

^jak:
Nope, the actual sentence (Several canyons looked promising for springs on our topographical map, but turned up dry.) clearly means that the map showed that there was springs (looked promising for). Only logical implication here is that the map was old/outdated/misprinted, and thus the author had gone on a wild goose chase (misleaded).

Anyone know what’s the other answer choice for the comic strip’s first question again?
(question/answer: (The relationship between the two passages: passage 2 elaborates on a concept brought up in passage 1))

Okk… our test was same as 2008 NOV US. and 2011 JAN INTERNATIONAL

the site has only US tests.

^congratulations:

No, the curves are never released officially. This test was used in the Nov 08 US test, and the Jan 11 INTERNATIONAL test. The curves above are for the US test.

sorry guys, now I’m clear. (still hope for 770!)
I should have not made that one careless error!

john9811,

The answers in that thread could be wrong, no? I still think that it was the latter because a) the passage stated that the author shut himself away - so the word relief doesn’t make much sense b) even though the passage did imply that the world lacks order, the author put emphasis on how the father found answers to life’s chaos in the book and this is backed up by c) 2 3 sentences explaining why the father was so fascinated by the book (revered logic and reason; assumed it was his moral responsibility to give precedence to Louis’ theories and thought that if he didn’t do that…the very power of logic will defeat him)

I think the latter fits :/

I just need a 690 or so after I bombed a potential 700 :(

Guys, I have the Jan 11 test booklet and this test isn’t the one that is in that booklet

^junaid123

Yep, they could be wrong xD. I chose this instead of the first choice as I saw the sentence above the one the question refers to stated the exact meaning (almost verbatim) of the chaos answer, plus some of your points. I do hope that we got it correct though - I’m at a -2 total if including this question (the other is a silly vocab question), and there’s a remote chance that I didn’t pick the correct answer for the comic strip question one. So yeah, basically both of these questions are the only barrier between a 800 and a 780.

^junaid
You sure you didn’t get the US test instead of the international one? The jan 11 international sat test thread was basically discussing the same questions, so…

Oh yeah, I forgot that they only release the May exams for the international test, and the Jan, may and dec US test papers.

I don’t know. I got latest QAS booklets off the internet via torrents and I am assuming that was the international tests.

Yes, i hope so. I bombed a potential 720 or so i just want as high a score as possible. Made 2 3 stupid mistakes. That’s 40 pts :(
