International Student -World History

So I’m giving the World History SAT on dec 3. I’ve never done World History before but I want this test because I want to study it in college. I have the Barrons book and let’s just say it’s A LOT. I started reading about 2 weeks ago and there is still 80% to go…any tips and tricks for this test? Really need a good score :frowning: colleges are Amherst, Vassar, Wellesley, etc

Got a 510! :frowning:
Suggestion- do not go by the tests in The Barrons book, The real format is very different

^The Spanish with Listening Subject Test had a format very similar to my Barron’s book. I guess it depends on the test?

Good luck if you decide to take it again  But the test prep book is designed to take what you’ve learned in school and reinforce it in the context of the test. If it’s entirely new material, especially with history, don’t expect the practice book to give you a perfect score.

@catsss yes, I was referring to world history ONLY but didn’t mention it because that’s what the thread is called anyway.

I agree with what you said about the book though. I’ve never had a world history course in my life (we don’t have the option in my school)
So that was the result of 20 days of Barrons.
Was not expecting a full score but 600+. just that the questions were in a completely different format from what the book shows.

Oh ok. There’s also a subject test in US history; have you taken that class?

You also might want to read reviews of SAT books online before you buy them (or anything, really, as I learned the hard way :P).

It would probably also benefit you to read more about the topics covered in the WH test. You could find a textbook at a library/order one online and go through it taking notes, which would give you a much more in-depth study.

And, remember that colleges will look at your achievements in the context of what is available to you.

@catsss I’m an international student, and I’ve never read American history before, thats why i chose WH.
Anyway, I did do research online and The Barrons book was reviewed as the best by all students. Anyway, they might’ve taken WH courses in school and hence found it easier.
But, doesn’t matter now. I’m a HS Senior so no chance of giving it again!
