International student

Hi guys.

As the topic states I'm an international student, from Norway, looking to pursue my dream of going to college.

I'm not really sure how the colleges translate my grades from norwegian to american, or if they perhaps weighten my SAT score over my gpa.

I graduated with a 4.0 out of 6.0 norwegian GPA (there was no graduates in my school that graduated with a gpa of 5.5 or higher, and i went to a really good and competitive school) and after doing some research i found out this would translate into a 3.0ish GPA (I'm not sure if this actually is the case, though). I got a 1900 on my SAT the first time I took it but at my second try im really confident in exceeding a 2000 score.

I like partying, people, and socialising. Also, my family got deep pockets so money is not an issue, if that matters.

So what im looking for is some advice. Where do I have a realistic shot at getting in? What schools would you recommend (that i have a shot at getting in to)? Also, I would appreciate any information in general you got about the admission of international students.

I am from Sweden and I know I would like to attend University of Colorado at Boulder if I could afford it. It is a big party school and Boulder is a really cool place for students and since you are from Norway you can handle the cold winters. It is sunny 300 days a year there and the mountains and nature is just awesome. You would have no problem getting in there and if you are like me you would love it!

If you want to get in somewhere which is more demanding academically I would look at rankings by US News and then scroll down until there are some schools which match your profile. It also depends if you want to go to a small school (1500-3000 students) or larger universities (>5000 students). Look at top colleges for Liberal arts colleges if you want to go to a rather small school or universities ranking if you want attend a larger school.

Hope this helps a bit, but you need to do some research on your own because there are 4000 colleges in the US and our tips can’t cover them all :P
