international student

hi i was wondering about any prep schools that offer financial aid for international students if possible a decent amount. eg over 50%
also are there any prep schools that are cheeper than the rest.
i want to attend something traditional/old fashioned and likely strictish with academics.
i'm very big on my sports so a place that preferably has rowing

Ummmm,Kent? There are a lot of internationals. Well from what I saw and heard.
Kent has one of the finest crew program in the U.S.

NMH is very generous with FA (Currently, over 40 percent of students at NMH receive more than $5.2 million in grants and $200,000 in long-term, low-interest loans.), but without it it's very expensive (roughly 60,000 with additional expenses). It is also located on the Connecticut River, and has a well established crew program.

As far as international students, about 25 percent of NMH students are from countries other than the United States.

You can investigate a Davis Scholarship <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/415887-davis-scholarships-pilot-program.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/415887-davis-scholarships-pilot-program.html</a> . Financial aid for international students is hard to get. You might want to rename your post "Financial Aid for International Students" so that you can attract the casual browser. There are many international students who apply with great success. Unfortunately, there are far fewer who get aid. You might want to do a search of "financial aid to internationals."

Blair has a very strong crew program, and the top boys 4 just won 1st place scholastic at a national event Blair Academy - News & Events. However, I don't know if they offer aid to internationals. If you are interested, you should contact Bowen Posner who is the head boys coach and also works in admissions. While I see you are a girl, I don't think any female crew coach also works in admissions. You might also look into Kent, Brooks and St. Pauls School. Again, I have no idea about aid to internationals at any of these schools, but there is someone on this board who posts about St. Pauls School from time to time, and his 2 daughters received aid; they are from Canada.

Tuition is generally less expensive when you move out of New England and major metropolitan areas. If you take a look at boarding schools in south, there may be significant differences.

thanks guys how do you edit the name of the post

You should start a new thread. If you like, you can link to this thread as a reference. You might call it something like "Schools with Financial Aid for International Students." This is a quiet time, so you might need to bump it up a few times. There have been discussions on this, so you might find some information by searching.

St. Paul's School does offer tuition support for international students. You might contact Yuri Francis, Director of Tuition Support. He can be reached at (603) 229-4717, or by e-mail at yfrancis@sps.edu.

Re crew; The woman's varsity coach is Chip Morgan. The woman's crew just came in 4th in the national's last week (<a href="https://www.sps.edu/podium/default.aspx?t=6183)%5B/url%5D">https://www.sps.edu/podium/default.aspx?t=6183)</a>. Having grown up rowing there, I will say they have the most amazing course, a man made 4 boat abreast straight course. Guess that's why they never had an 'away' race all year. Who whats to row a twisting river and fight currents?

We have a seperate St. Paul's School thread here if you are interested. Obviously there are lots of other schools that are great academically and are crew powerhouses. Note that some row 4's and others 8's.

Most schools will give international students financial aid.
I think that because they don't rely on US govt. funding, they can give financial aid to whom they choose, and are not restricted to giving to only US residents/citizens.

Actually, the majority of boarding schools DO NOT give any type of financial assistance to international students -- remember that there are hundreds of boarding schools, not just the ones mentioned often on this board.

If you are an international student needing financial aid to attend a BS, that it is very, very difficult to get both the admission and the aid. If you look over the threads from last fall/winter, you can see that we had many international candidates that needed aid that were not successful with their applications.

Start looking at schools and finding out if they offer aid -- keep track of your research. You will want to apply to schools that are both reaches (and the top 10 BS schools are reaches for everyone), and matches.

Schools where your interests are a good match and where your stats are in the upper percentile will be your best bet -- schools are more willing to give you money if they feel you are bringing something to the table.
