@MYOS1634 That is a great idea. Do countries other than Canada have that policy? And how does the rigor of the college and the major play into their consideration?
I think European countries have that policy too. Canada changed theirs though, raising the threshold to 20hours a week as long as x results have been reached. However the students I know don’t work more than 8-10 hours anyway because if they don’t pass - and at some universities a significant number of classes is weedout - they lose their visa.
@MYOS1634 That’s a great idea. In fact most students i know don’t and CAN’T work 20hrs per week.
This would also prevent the employers abusing internatinoal students working illegally; I know several people who worked illegally on F-1 visa, and they all said that their employers treated them really bad, some of which paid LESS than minimum wages.
There’s also a guarantee the student won’t try to self fund by working: since a GPA needs to be estalished before the job permit is granted, the student has to be able to pay for all fees for the first semester (whether through scholarships or family or any other way). And of course the work permit is semester-long. This ensures the part time job really is a supplement.
Enjoy college life guys, go to parties make friends( or girlfriends) and enjoy life, don’t work all the way. Period
^???
So now that we have come to a conclusion, all is well that ends well !!
