Internationals to Penn

Just wanted to know… how many internationals here are ED’ing to Penn? please state wharton/seas/cas/nursing etc too! thanks… :)

Me!! :)

I applied ED to Jerome Fisher/SEAS... God, I really hope I get in!

BTW, I'm from Panama, where are you from?

i'm applying to SEAS too! but i'm worried i'll be deferred/rejected due to the amount of finaid i'm asking for! :(

<< location

Yes, that is my main concern too since I'm also applying for financial aid! My counselor even said that she thinks I'd definetely get in if it weren't for the financial aid thing. Too bad Penn isn't need blind for intels :(

i'm applying to wharton from Istanbul, Turkey. I'd be a good candidate if it weren't for my average SAT scores (by Penn's standards at least). Let's see what the adcoms say...

I am applying to CAS .. Unfortunately, I am also applying for financial aid so I will be happy if deferred =)

I am also from turkey =)

Just curious, have any of you received a letter from the International Admissions Director asking you to reconsider your application for financial aid?

yea! i apparently received it because i had checked no.7 on part I of my app but had not sent in the finaid documents yet. it was marked october 3rd, and i didn't send my finaid docs until late october!

I didn't apply because it'd be hard enough for me to get in w/o applying.

Do alot of students in ED actually get aid?

according to the FAQ they sent me, Penn has given around 45 finaid packages every year to intl students, in recent years. Also, they claim to give the same amount of finaid to accepted intls whether they apply ED or RD.

Only 45? That's really keen competition!!

everyone gets aid that needs it. early, regular, international, they give over 40 million dollars out and probably a lot higher than that.

The second paragraph of the letter i received reads "In consideration of the extreme scarcity of financial aid money... "

"[not asking for finaid] would remove you from the intensely competitive non-citizen financial aid ppl, it would enhance your chances of being admitted to the University."

"Please be aware of the fact that [asking for finaid] will, probably, lessen your chances of being offered admission.

aaron, I also received this same letter and I had already sent in my fin aid documents... I really can't pay for penn so I have no other option than to sit around, cross my fingers and wait!

I'm Canadian...dunno how "international" that is.

lipgloss, me too!

btw, why aren't canadians considered internationals in many colleges??

how much would you people say not asking for FA boost your chances?

it wont boost it a bit

"To this end, Penn employs these policies for U.S. citizens and permanent residents:

Need-Blind Admission
The Office of Admissions reviews admission applications without regard to whether the student is applying for financial aid.

Penn Meets Full Need
The Student Financial Services Office meets 100% of a student's demonstrated financial need.

Eligibility
There is no arbitrary income cut-off for financial aid eligibility. Because each family is different and financial aid is determined by many factors, we encourage you to apply if you are concerned about your ability to pay.

Almost 60% of Penn undergraduates receive some form of financial assistance.
Nearly 40% of Penn Undergraduates are awarded need-based grant aid.
Approximately 78% of the freshmen who applied for financial aid for the 2004-2005 academic year received a need-based award.
The average financial aid for incoming aided freshmen in 2004 was $26,300 (combination of grant, loan, and part-time job).
For 2004-2005, Penn is committing over $70 million of its resources for grant aid to undergraduate students."
