So I'm used to using my family's stellar at&t wireless connection, but I can't afford that ish when I move. Is it easy to get on other wireless networks in the area (I mean outside of the University and hotspots)? I dread becoming one of those weirdos who sits around on their laptop at Starbucks all day. No offense if you're one of those weirdos. Well, kinda.

you don’t think you’ll be able to manage splitting the cost of internet with your roommates?

I don’t see why someone using a public service should be considered a weirdo.

i happen to enjoy sitting at starbucks with my laptop call me what you will.

Not sure if you mean around the residential area or the commercial area of Westwood, but there are a significant number of wireless networks in the area. When I was looking at apartments, about half the managers mentioned something about “don’t worry if you don’t want to pay for internet - there are a whole bunch of wireless networks in the building that we all use.”

Like pinker said though, the best option would be to split it with your roommates because you’ll likely be relying on it quite a bit and networks that aren’t your own are rather inherently unreliable. Granted you could just head over to the library or whatever, but at least to my mind, that’s a pain in the ass.

Oh, I forgot to mention I was asking this question because I’m considering moving into a studio (which is why I then couldn’t afford that ish). Seems manageable if I don’t buy my own network… thanks for the answer heh.

there’s wifi all over campus. but internet is about $20/month on the low end from at&t… why wouldn’t you be able to afford that? are you a drug user?

Wouldn’t that depend on where you live? I’m fairly certain AT&T isn’t even available in my building. Cheapest internet I’ve found so far for my place is about double that.
