Internship Etiquette: How to let them know I'm waiting on more responses

So I've applied to several places. I got a quick response from a company that is interested in me after an initial interview/meeting. They emailed me asking me when I am available to meet to discuss my possible fall schedule and whatnot.

But they are not my first choice. I've applied to other places that are a bit slower in the process of responded. I have an interview/meeting with one on Friday that is my #1 choice actually and another one next week with another top choice of mine!

How do I let the first company know, politely and kindly, that I am awaiting responses on others? In an actual job situation, I'd take it, but as internships, would they understand?

My reason for this not being my #1 choice is the fact that they are a PR-only firm whereas other places are advertising/PR/media and my focus is the creative aspect of advertising/media, not just PR. Can this be used as a reason?

All you need to do is take some time to reply to them. It is very normal to take time to reply to a decision.

Have they made an official decision? Just because your possible schedule is being discussed does not mean it is an official decision.
