While media does have an effect on how people perceive minority groups or how minority groups perceive themselves, the facts don’t exactly fit your hypothesis.

For instance, young black kids will often think that a lighter-skinned doll is “good”, while a darker-skinned doll is “bad” due to general media images (primarily from the news; TV shows actually have many positive portrayals of blacks, particularly BMs) and/or are influenced by how their peers think (who are also, in turn, influenced by the media).

BFs, among all the groups, are the most reluctant to date out, particularly WMs due to the past history of white/black relations in this country.

Also, blacks as they get older (past the kiddie shows), tend to not watch the same TV shows, films, etc. or read the same magazines as the white dominated general media and instead, watch or read material that is geared specifically to the black audience.

Asian-Americans, otoh, don’t have that outlet and pretty much watch and read the same stuff that whites do (aside from new immigrants).

Catsushi - I think the article is wrong. 30% of Americans are obese, and the article states 26% of Aussies are. They have more overweight people, but we have more obese, so the title of Australia being more obese is false. We’re #1! :)

Thanks for the clarification btw, I thought AF = African American Female, not Asian, whoops.

*edit…micronesia sounds like something we learn about in Biology, it’s too small to count :p

Yes, I dismiss the statistics b/c anyone can use statistics in their favor. I don’t know the credibility of these statistics so why should I trust them? Had he used statistics against black women, black men, Asian women, Asian men, etc., I would NOT have had a problem. This user has used NEGATIVE stats AGAINST black women. I’m not PC at all, I’m just not using the language I COULD use. What I’m saying is, everyone wants to be seen as clean and pure and NOT racist, but in reality they DO withhold some biases. I could easily pull out some stats about white people, Asian people, green people, brown people, WHATEVER and say this is what makes them unattractive, and I would automatically be called racist. However, collegehelllp does this, and it’s “he’s just stating facts.” Have you all NOT heard of a d@mn credibility check? Have you not ever heard of LYING with statistics? How do you think multimillion dollar corporations keep customers, LYING WITH STATISTICS! I’m not saying the info isn’t true, but I can’t sit here and say it is true b/c I don’t know anything of the sources. If you want me to not be PC, then let’s pull some stats out about your specific ethnic group, and let’s make some negative comments on them. See how you take it. Unlike you, I AM NOT PC. I’m not afraid to tell the truth. Politically speaking, YES, black women tend to be curvy, but where are the stats that say that that is an undesirable trait?? HM! Yall took it upon yourself to say that. I know PLENTY of men that PREFER thicker women. I’m a black female, and I’m thin. Every guy I know INCLUDING my boyfriend likes thicker women. I come across this ignorance everyday. No one wants to be labelled as a biased racist, but in a sense, we all have some bias in us. So I’m supposedly, PC? Well, I’ll spit the truth. It TENDS to be in the WHITE culture to promote the THIN LOOK, the LIGHT skin (in black women), and LONG HAIR. Look at Hollywood. You hardly see a dark skinned black woman with hips and thighs and short hair. Name one black celeb like that. Thought so. So there’s your “PC” statement down the garbage. And I WILL blame the poster b/c even if the facts/stats WERE skewed, he chose to use them to his advantage (which was to prove his point). No one brought up any race being unattractive until he came along (if I can recall). The conversation was strictly on anecdotes and personal preference, but it was not on knocking down another race. It’s fine to say I’m not attracted to black women, but to say a great percentage of black women are unattractive due to my standards of beauty (which happen to correlate with society) due to obesity then pull out questionable stats is ridiculous.

All the black men i’ve talked date white women and asian women because they’re easy and cater to them. black women don’t.black women don’t follow the “delicate flower” ideal the other races put on their women and i think that’s the main reason tbf andare wm,am turned off to each other

im black but i date mostly white. with black guys i can be girly or rough and they understand and love both sides. with whitey i have to super sweet amd giggly because if i’m not their feelings get hurt. white men def need more care and sometimes the bf doesn’t want that mess

Man: Baby, make me a sandwich.
Woman: Sure, babe. You want the meat sliced thin?
Man: Yeah, whatever.
Woman: Cheese?
Man: YEAH, WHATEVER. JUST MAKE THE SANDWICH. I WANT IT TOASTED.
Woman: Okay, baby.
(3 minutes later)
Woman: I’m sorry it took so long, sweetie. I hope you like it. Take a bite. You’ll like it. I love you.
Man: It’s alright. I could’ve made a better one myself. Where’s my drink? This is ridiculous. I have to TELL you to bring me a drink.
Woman: I’m sorry. I’m so dumb. I’ll go get it.
Man: Well. What are you waiting for?
Woman: Sorry. I love you.
(2 minutes later)
Man: About time. Okay. I’m watching the game. Leave me alone.
Woman: Sorry, babe. I’ll go fluff your pillows.
Man: Yeah, okay.
Woman: I love you so much.

Callin me PC. I was just being nice. It’s a good day.

LOL @ newjack…Many black people have been saying what bananasandwich said FOR YEARS. It’s like a joke to us sometimes b/c we know there aren’t too many black women that will be at a man’s beck and call like that.

LOL beatiful nerd…i don’t think that’s the typical white guy as much as the typical white ass if my boyfriend said that, I would dump him…not that any guy who knew me would ask me to cook, ever. :D

Newjack - BMI is a crappy indicator, but the fact is our average BMI is much higher than most nations and getting higher and higher every year. It’s hardly because we’re more muscular than them. A better indicator is percentage of body fat, rate of heart disease, cardiovascular problems, etc, as well as to compare our diet to see how nutritious it is.

@bananasandwich, do you date the preppy type white guys?

My boyfriend is like the hood type white guy b/c that’s the environment he was raised in, so no milli-vanilli/vanilla ice type guy. But I can be girly or rough or whatever with him. I tell him EVERYTHING. Idk I can just be me with him.

There are no hood white guys in kansas and hardly any blacks. i’ve dated anywhere from preppy to country and preppy boys are the biggest hassle. even if they like you it takes a ton of work on your part to give them the confidence to ask you out and even then they might not. preppy boys also tend to have families that don’t approve of interracial dating.

most of the time it’s not too hard to find someone who loves every side of me it’s just that sometimes with white guys i can feel the cultural barriers that arise. honestly the only time i date preppy is if i want a dumb fling or want someone for show.

Making a sandwich and being someone’s slave are two completely different things. I’ve made my gf sandwiches and done other similar things for her, just as she’s done before for me. Sometimes it’s nice to have someone do something for you, especially if you are busy or stressed out. Your reference to white women waiting on their hand and foot to their men is completely outdated and ignorant. That’s the same as me saying black women won’t ever make their man a sandwich because they are all selfish.

^^^ You’re dumb b/c I clearly said the STEREOTYPE. It’s not outdated. It’s still out there, and almost all black comedians reference it as a joke. Stop being so ignorant and read the rest of a response.

No, that would be biased toward black women. What I said was directed toward a common joke and CLEARLY stated that it was for the stereotype. And you must be in LaLaland b/c that is STILL the stereotype for white women -> docile, naive, submissive, golddigging, etc. ALL STEREOTYPE. If that’s the old stereotype, explain the new one.

…
Yeah, thought so.

@bananasandwich lol that was funny. Have you ever had a guy relate to your color somehow? This Mexican guy liked my friend, and freshman year in class, he called her his beautiful black stallion…it was too funny.

Meanwhile, my guy is black and was raised in the ghetto, but doesn’t act like a gangster at all. He’s the typical MIT nerd, except maybe a little more of a jock. He sure does Lil Wayne, though.

People tell him he’s “white-washed”. So he speaks intelligently, how does that not make him black?

I don’t think it’s really possible to really stereotype white women since there are just so many. White includes Italian, Russian, English, German, Aussie, mixed, the list goes on. African American is African American.
