^ It doesn’t make sense to compare African Americans with all Caucasians. Comparing African Americans with Caucasian Americans would make more sense. And Caucasian Americans don’t really differ from each other by basis of being Italian/German/English/etc.

^^ I meant white women as in American from America (think Mean Girls type American, NOT lindsay lohan’s character; she was from Africa lol).

The whole “white-washed” thing. Who says it? I’m guessing black people. I get that a lot too. “Black Barbie” is what I get called. But that’s dumb for them to stereotype him. I laugh at stereotypes b/c they’re funny, but I don’t literally walk up to a white woman and say you’re submissive. Lol that’s just dumb and most likely not true. I get what you’re saying. He’s the smart guy from the ghetto. My boyfriend isn’t a gangster or anything; like I said, I’d kick his butt. I don’t know. Sad to say, but a lot of black people don’t like to see other black people doing well. They call other blacks “white-washed” b/c they’re jealous that they’re doing something positive. It’s really dumb.

I’m hispanic (venezuelan) and my boyfriend is jewish and we are going to the same college next year. we are freaking cute together.

I have only dated latino and white guys in my life so far, but I’m also attracted to hot blacks and asians and im not forgetting indians :). Even though i think latino men are the most attractive :)

Much more simply said than I could have put it. The majority of white women (and many more people, since whites are a far larger portion of the population… so you’d technically see MORE fat white females than fat black females) are also overweight or obese, but I’m willing to bet fewer people automatically characterize white women as fat than people who automatically characterize black women as fat.

I know the feeling. But then again, I could go on and on about “black culture”. Suddenly you’re not “black enough” if you get good grades or go to a good school or stay out of trouble or just use English!

^ I agree. We have all most likely been called an “oreo.” It seems as if we have nowhere to go in society. If we do well in school, many black kids mock us, and many white kids compete with us or can’t fathom a black person being intelligent. If we date outside of our race, many black people are upset and feel as if we’re traitors. Someone told me that black women should’nt date white men b/c they will beat us like they beat the slaves (no joke. I stopped talking to that person b/c that was pure ignorance. Yes, he was black). Some white people look down on other white people who date black people. It’s just wrong altogether. If I’m going to point out the faults of one race, I’m going to point out those of my own. This is why I went off on collegehelllp. You can’t sit there and attack one SPECIFIC (you can’t get more specific when you mention age, gender, and race unless you want to mention location) demographic and not expect to get called racist or at least biased. No one was pulling out stats about white women or Jamaican women or Korean women (etc. etc.). No one was doing any of that, but he did. I wasn’t being PC; I was being just. If you’re gonna bring up your standards of beauty and bias, then do it for other demographics too if you don’t want people to fight back.

Hey, me too! Well…half. I’m half Venezuelan and half white.
I dyed my hair blonde the other day, my Venezuelan side really disliked that move. I look a mess.

^ Platinum blonde or dirty blonde?

Speaking of going to a good school, one of my friends, who’s black, was upset because she applied for transfer to Brown, got accepted but needed financial aid and all of the NAACP aid awards would only be given to students who went to HBCUs. She was ****ed about that and said that they weren’t considering students who wanted to go to better schools.

A little lighter than dirty, I went for the Jessica Simpson blonde. I’m working on dying it back, but I’m worried I’m going to go bald if I keep messing with my hair.

^ LOL I’m laughing b/c the first people I thought of were Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. They had to have something to do with that. That’s horrible. It’s all part of the “Black power” thing. I remember at a Delta GEMS meeting I had, the women were almost begging us to go to HBCUs just to bring more attention to them but were saying how they weren’t as advanced as other schools like Harvard and Princeton. I respect HBCUs and even wanted to go to one at one point, but I thought about my career path and felt the best fit for what I wanted was at Columbia. I hate how mainstream society thinks that black people look up to Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson as role models. For the most part, a lot of us can’t stand them. We all know Jesse Jackson was jealous of Barack Obama.

I’m sitting at my internship and just completely started laughing out loud at that! (which resulted in weird looks from everyone around me.) I could so see Jesse Jackson standing with his hands on his hips pouting about Barack.

You would think they would support students wanting to go to ivies.

^^^ Lol haha. I know. I laughed about that for the longest. “I just wanna cut his n*ts off.” Did ANYONE ELSE see Jackson cry when he found out Obama won? Those weren’t tears of joy; those were tears of anger lol. I bet he was thinking, “All this d— work I’ve done for these black people, and they elect Obama. Ingrates.”

NAACP is plain and simple typically for the promotion of anything black. Black schools, black churches, black shoes, black cats lol. If it’s not black, it’s wack (in their opinion). If you don’t go to an HBCU, you get no money. It’s all about promoting that good ol’ black power, and who better to have as leaders than the biggest black promoters ever: Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton? Al Sharpton still rocks the sherm perm aka the Jheri curl of the late 70s-80s. Jesse Jackson still has old black women racing around him like groupies.

*I like to joke, people. If you love Jesse Jackson, go right ahead; I like to poke fun, lighten the air.

LMAO, I remember seeing him crying but I assumed he was happy about. Didn’t he once try to run for president? That makes sense of him being jealous, lol, I never thought of that one before.

NAACP sounds like a complete hypocrite. Attending Brown or Columbia or Princeton is a huge “advancement.” Hell, the word is in their name. To insist students only go to the school they want them to is crazy.

Lol that’s what EVERYONE assumed. Not me. Lol. Did you see his bogus apology? BS. He was jealous. He did run in 1984. See, I know it’s wrong, but I can’t help but laugh at Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. It’s too funny. They’re 2 old men stuck in the 70s, in their glory days. Barack came along and stole their thunder.

NAACP is hypocritical. That’s why I tell people, some black people are racist. A lot of black people blame white people for EVERYTHING. I mean, some things are understandable (i.e. corrupt system, affirmative action not always being implemented, etc.), but seriously, you can’t blame white people for your lights getting cut off or something stupid like that. Your lights got cut off b/c you didn’t pay the bill lol. You can’t say you didn’t have the money b/c the white employer didn’t give you the job. It’s not ALWAYS racism; now granted, racism may have played a role, but not all white people are racist. NAACP fills these people’s heads up with black this, black that, and there’s nothing wrong with being proud of your people but don’t knock down others who want to do something different.

Collegehelp, I think the point we were making was that although half of black women are overweight and a significant % obese, the situation at certain colleges is different. The question is why, even when surrounded by fit black women, Asian guys are still not drooling over them to the extent they are over white women. It’s not like they see a fit black woman and think “ohhh but most of them are overweight so I’m not going to be attracted to her.”

^ I know I sound stereotypical, but it may have to do with cultural stereotypes on the part of Asian immigrants. Many Asian-Americans, esp here in NY, are 1st/2nd generation and their parents want them to marry within their own culture (Marry a Chinese guy cause Grandma only speaks Mandarin!), so they’ll try to date within their ethnic group. Also, many Asian/White parents are prejudiced when it comes to Black people. They’re fine with their kids having Black friends and dating them, but they don’t want their children to marry Black people. I know, I’m totally stereotyping here, but I’ve definitely noticed this more subtle racism. I really think there’s a lot of 21st century American adults who have black friends/colleagues, they’re cool with their kids dating black people, but they become uncomfortable with interracial marriage. I’ve noticed this attitude in the middle-aged generation so hopefully it’ll die out soon. And it’s definitely a minority who thinks this, not most, but it exists.

I think your characterization of many Asian parents is not that far off actually. However, I believe that if Asian males truly were attracted to black females, they will find some way to make the relationship work despite the stigma. Gay people do this all the time.

dumbest thread ever, I mean seriously it went from question, to answer, to telling your life stories, to being happy about yourself, to arguing, to obesity…

I don’t know much about Asian-American culture, but I know when I studied in Beijing, having dark skin was probably worst than death to them. My best friend and I studied together there, she’s Pakistani and they damn near treated her like dirt. And the number of skin lightening cream commercials and people walking around with umbrellas to avoid getting tan would probably lend to the lack of interracial relationships between Asians and non-whites.

I was told (I don’t know if this true) that in China, because the poor work in the sun all day as farmers, constrictors, etc. and get deep tans – and association formed with dark skin equating to poor. The negative western portrayal of some minorities probably doesn’t help.

I don’t know whether this applies to Asian-Americans though.

They do seem stuck in the 70s, I never thought of that before–but it describes them both perfectly. I wonder why they think they’re anointed as the black spokesmen; that everything they say, the entire black population agrees with. God, I feel sorry for their wives. Imagine getting into an argument with your husband who thinks he’s the god-given spokesperson for an entire race of people.

Wife: You were supposed to take out the trash, it’s your turn today.
Jesse: I don’t have to take out the trash. The entire black race agrees that I don’t have to take out the trash. That’s 40.7 million to one. I win.
