Hello, all! I've got an interview with a USC rep tomorrow evening, and since it's my first college interview, I'm freaking out a little bit. It's going to be at a pretty nice hotel, and I know that I should dress nicely, but would a suit be overkill (I'm applying to Dornsife/Annenberg.)? Also, what kind of questions should I expect to be asked, and should I come with questions prepared? Lastly, would it be seen as pretentious if I brought my activities resume to give to the interviewer?

I know that's a lot of questions, but I'd really, really appreciate it if anyone could help me out. Thanks!

Good luck with your interview, I have one too with a rep coming next Saturday. I don’t plan on wearing a suit, but obviously a nice shirt and tie is appropriate. I’ve had interviews like this before and that seems to be the standard. As for questions, i can only tell you what i’ve experienced from past college interviews. They will most likely ask you things like
Why USC?
What do you like/dislike about your school?
Tell me about the area you live in.
Whats your favorite subject? favorite sport?
What do you like to do for fun?
If your friends were here, how would they describe you?

Those have been the general ones that i always get asked. Be ready for a wierd one like “if you were a fruit, what would you be and why?” They like to ask those kind of questions to catch you off guard and see how you think on your feet. Have fun with it! I would have some questions ready because you want to have a conversation with your interviewer, that is, you don’t want to be the only one talking. If you don’t get a chance to ask your questions during the interview, every one I have had has ended the interview with “do you have any questions for me?” and YOU DO NOT WANT TO SAY NO. A couple i always ask are "what are favorite things about ----? also, What are some unorthodox or special things you have seen in applications that you feel made it stand out. Ask some specific questions about your major and interests.

Finally, make sure you get a business card or info, and send a thank you letter. On a side note, i don’t feel that a resume is necessary. You will notice they take notes about the interview, generally the more notes the better. These notes will be inserted with your file and considered when looking over the entire application. Your resume will already be in that application so it’s only reiterating. I hope this helps you out. Let me know how your interview goes. If you notice anything contrary to what i’ve said, i’d love to hear about it before my USC interview next week:)
