Interview Acceptance Rate

Is it possible to find out the acceptance rate for students who interviewed? It would be interesting to find out in general how some schools fare in regular acceptance vs those who interview...

Supposedly, students who aren’t interviewed aren’t penalized, which makes sense, if someone’s in a small town where no alumni live. But if you’re offered an interview and you turn it down, they might assume that you aren’t interested and that would hurt you.

Usually, an interview will not make or break you, since every interviewer has different standards and it’s hard to compare applicants when they’re all measured by different sticks. Unless you get an interview from the dean of admissions, which would be way cool…but really nerve wracking.

I got an alumni interview. What do you mean they emphasize interviewing at the school?

In my opinion, I think getting an alumni interview might raise your chances by a little. It gives the school opportunity to get to know you better.
I got an alumni interview as well.

Seems straightforward. I just wasn’t sure if there was a place to find this sort of data for Haverford and even other schools if available.

My D saw Haverford her Jr Year, fell in love.

Then, she interviewed during the summer, with an admissions officer and a student that was ‘in training’. The process lasted over an hour, and she came away totally charged up by the process. We are from the south, so it was great timing on our part to be able to visit twice.

Interviewing on Campus, if you can do it, is the way to go, in my humble opinion. We will see if it worked out for her. What it did do however, was firmly place Haverford as one of her top choices. (odd since she originally thought she only wanted schools in big cities).

She also came up with her own rating scale for schools, which included scores for:
People walking by looking up and smiling.
People willing to discuss the school with strangers.
People walking around in mixed groups (sex and color)
Student’s enthusiasm in discussing classes
Friendliness of non-student/non-educators.
Cleanliness of Campus
Ratio of students wearing college T-shirts.

We joked about it at first (it came about because the campus store lady was so sweet and one of the maint staff talked to me about the long range growth plan I was reading), but it became clear that she was on to something. Haverford scored high marks. (Most schools did well: a few she took of the list because they scored so low!).

If you can get to the campus to interview, do it. Your passion and enthusiasm for the school will be duly noted if you visit.
-of course, if My kid doesnt get in, this advice is 100% wrong! :)

So is there no website where I could find say the acceptance rate at Haverford for students who interview?

I tried searching, no luck. :frowning: My advice: Just do the interview and don’t worry. :D
