Haverford Interview

Hey, so I was sent an email telling me to contact someone to schedule an interview but I am now not very interested in doing it. A) Are interviews all that important? B) Is it too late to back out of doing an interview?

Haverford’s holistic approach to admissions places a heavy emphasis on getting to know each applicant as an individual; hence, there has been a lot of emphasis placed on the interview and essays. They take great pains to identify students who fill not only fit well with the school’s small community but will also contribute to it positively. While interviews may not be required, the admissions department recommends all applicants have one. My son did an on-campus interview and found the interviewer (an admissions staff member) to be very receptive and welcoming, all the more important since it was his first interview. While not having one might not hurt you, it definitely won’t help you, either; admission to Haverford is very competitive and you need really need to take every opportunity to convey who you are and how you will contribute to the campus community. Grades and test scores alone will not get you in. If Haverford is where you want to go, I would encourage you to have an interview. I believe they stop doing them for current seniors by January 15. Best of luck.

My son was accepted without an interview so it can be done, but your grades and application should probably be stellar.

Thanks everyone for the advice, I have scheduled the interview. At the worst, its just more practice for interviews.
