Interview-can I wear a skirt?

I have an alumni interview next week. Can I wear a skirt, or is that a no no? What about a dress? Heels? I hate pantsuits, they’re so unflattering. Like seriously, what is Hilary Clinton thinking?

Interviewer’s name is Zachary.

OMG Thanks!

Isabella

Oh, one more thing. Should I bring a copy of my application and arts supplement?

(Also, not like a jean miniskirt or anything. Think j crew but not so unstylish. I was totally watching Rear Window last night for like the nth time and fell in love with Grace Kelly’s pencil skirt…okay! Have to go back to class!)

I suppose it depends on where you live, and where you are meeting the interviewer. I'm an interviewer, and I typically wear jeans when I meet students, and I tell them to dress casually. You don't want to be wearing something significantly nicer than your interviewer. You're a student -- dress like one.

Interviewers are not supposed to see your application -- that's for the admission staff. I've heard some interviewers want to see that material, but I never do. I just want to talk to the student.

I wore a sightly nicer shirt than what I wear day to day with a light pair of khakis, nothing that would have gotten me looks at school or anything, but presentable nonetheless.

I brought a copy of my "resume/activities" sheet in case my interviewer was interested, but left it in the car to be honest, and he never asked about it.

This was three years ago though.

where someting neat and comfortable. nice skirt would be fine just don't be distasteful. you don't need to bring anything unless you want to. just relax and be yourself. There's really no trick to it. Be prepared to talk about your activities/passions outside of school and what kind of person you are and why you want to go to the school. good to ask a couple quesitons about the school to show additional interest.

go naked

.

Shouldn't wear a skirt if you're a guy. Although it is the "liberal Ivy".

Lol, muffy

I wore a black skirt, a white blouse, and black flats to my interview (haven't had one for brown yet though.) My interviewer was wearing a suit.

hope that helps...

Since he's a guy and your a girl...then yea Wear a skirt...unless you don't think u look good in it or he's gay...but yea...impress him!

A skirt would be fine, but make sure it looks professional. You shouldn't really worry about looking pretty too much. I mean, what are you going to do? Seduce the interviewer?

Well, I don’t know. I was sort of thinking about it. He’s young : )
I think I should look professional, but not to the point that it makes me look blah. Attractive people fare better in interviews, so I want to look as pretty as possible. Ha, that sounds awful.

Well, we’ll see. My interview is in a few days.

Well this thread has just developed into one thing, and I'm sorry to say this, but someone has to make hte obligatory creepy forum pervert guy posting, and no one else is....

This thread is useless without pics.

Interviews don't make much difference, but if you want to feel better about yourself in having a good interview, show some cleavage.

It's settled then. Low-cut shirt, hiked up skirt. My interview with Zachary should go very well.

haha i just read your chances thread
and if ur a model, im sure you can pull anything off

Hate to hijack the thread, but does this outfit look OK for an interview? It's at Starbucks.

I disagree with dave. Cleavage = no! Do you want the guy to be staring at your chest the whole time while you are talking about your accomplishments in the science club? Nobody will take you seriously. :P Gosh, it's so hard to be a woman!

I have to agree with catsushi here -- under no circumstances would I ever recommend a low-cut shirt and a hiked up skirt. If you want this guy to take you seriously, then I would suggest a modest shirt/skirt set. It doesn't have to be a matching business suit, but you want to let them know that you're serious.

Reply to Kristina: That outfit looks casual, yet I think the interviewer will take you seriously. May be a little too casual, but maybe it'll help boost your personality in a postive way.
