i have an interview scheduled tomorrow at the university of chicago. does anyone have any advice for the interview? what should i wear? would a business suit be okay for a female, or would that be too formal?

Too formal. I would go smart casual. Something you feel comfortable is that isn’t too scruffy, but not something that makes you look uptight. The more you feel like yourself, the better you will come off at the interview.

Just be yourself. I believe that UofC would rather see your personality and who you are rather than just another one of “Those” kind of people. I think I wore like a plain red shirt, a leather jacket and black pants lol. That’s just who I am :P

But yeah, the business attire might make you and her feel way uncomfortable. This isn’t Harvard or Yale.

lol. I don’t know. I would think that the dress attire would be the same no matter what top school you’re applying; whatever your style is - preppy, hipster, beachy-casual, metalhead - I would think that personal expression always takes precedence over rigidity and formality.

But no, lose the suit.

This is true, for people in the know that is :P

Many people, myself included, stereotype Harvard and Yale to be rigid and formal, and thus the applicanies tend to dress as such for their interviews. Or so I have noticed from friends who have interviewed for these schools. Needless to say, they didn’t get in :P
