Hey everyone, I visiting University of Chicago early August and I also scheduled an interview, which they told me would be in the admissions office. I've heard a lot of different stuff about what to wear to a college interview, and that it depends on the place of the interview. What should I wear to this college interview? I was thinking business casual with a shirt, pants, nice shoes, perhaps a tie? Or do I need to dress more, like suit/tie/pants the works?

Also, if any of yall had done an interview before, I was wondering if you could fill me in on what it was like. This is the first college interview that I'm actually doing so I'm not very familiar with this stuff. Anyways, thanks!

^ Two notable threads on the interview - though I felt that I flopped at my interview. If you've never interviewed before, be forewarned... I encountered a nightmare where if you 'try' to be yourself, obviously you're not yourself because you have to /work/ at it. Eeugh. It wasn't good.

I would also go in with some idea what you want to study and why you are interested in that subject - even if you are undecided. And ask for water if you dry up.

Altogether, however, I loved seeing campus, and everyone there was helpful and interesting. I was just super-over-intimidated. I know better now.

Just wear whatever makes you comfortable. We've seen everything -- from suits to outfits that their mamas shouldn't have let them out of the house in. But your clothing will not be a significant part of the interview write-up, or probably a part at all.

just relax at your interview. i haven't had an interview at the admins office but ive had interviews with alumni. i think it would probably be informal, like a conversation between you and the admissions officer. they just want to know what kind of person you are, your interests, and any future plans you have in mind, why you want to go to uchic, etc. i also brought in a resume just in case and for most of my interviews, my resume was what kind of started off the whole interview. they'd read thru it and be like "oh i see you did this and this. can you tell me more about it" etc.

interviews were fun for me! so have fun and relax!
