Next week I'm interviewing at CWRU and CMU, can anyone who's done one before give me any advice for how to do well at each? I'm probably bringing a resume, how much will this help me? Any feedback is appreciated, thank you!

A few pointers from my D’s experience.

–You can just google college interview questions and get some ideas of questions that might be asked. Dont’ go crazy but it might be helpful to make you feel at ease during the actual interview. Don’t write out and memorize answers because they really want to have a conversation with you.
–Dress appropriately – it doesn’t have to be fancy but it should be something like khakis/slacks and a polo shirt for guys and a sundress or nice slacks and a shirt for girls.
–Definitely bring a resume if you have one. It gives the admission officer a guide to what to talk to you about (ex. academic achievements, activities etc.). And this may sound silly, but be sure you know what is on your resume and are able to talk about anything you have put on it.
–Come armed with a few questions about the school, preferably ones that are not answered on the school website. My D actually brought an index card with a few questions in case she got nervous.
-Show some enthusiasm about the school and be able to articulate why each school appeals to you.
–Try to relax and be yourself. Most schools truly want to learn more about you and they aren’t looking to put you on the spot or make you uncomfortable.
–Email a thank you note to the person who interviewed you as soon as you can.

Some schools have interviews that are part of the evaluation, some have interviews that are more informational but it shouldn’t change your approach.

Good luck. Relax, enjoy, and learn as much as you can about schools you are interested in.
