Just had my interview at a local panera bread, if that helps.

goldendomer11- did you guys both eat there? mine’s at a cafe at noon so i’m assuming we’re eating lunch there? i feel like eating while talking can potentially be awk. thanks!

I’d say any public place that allows you to speak at normal indoor volume is acceptable. That’s usually a coffee shop, but I’ve heard of it being conducted in bookstores, mall food courts, parks, etc. What you should not suggest are work places (yours or the alum’s), homes (either one’s), or places where you will be alone or there are expectations of privacy as that would be inappropriate.

As for skittlescutie: I’d say do whatever you feel like doing. It’s lunch time and it’s not unusual to eat. If you really feel awkward, pretend you are browsing the menu and tell the interviewer to go first and see what he/she does. Eating while the other person is not isn’t rude if both had the chance to get food. What will be rude would be bad table manners like chewing with your mouth open, talking with food in your mouth, making a mess, etc etc. Don’t do those things and you’ll be OK.

My interview was at 4:30 pm, and we just had a drink.
