Interview?

So I am just now getting around to scheduling an interview. The thing is my first choice is SCS, and my second choice MCS as a physics major. I looked at the alumni directory for both of these colleges and in both of them, the person closest to me was three hours away.

I don't drive, so there is a very limited time frame where I would be able to schedule an interview, because my Dad would have to drive me there. Would it be a big deal if I couldn't interview? If none of the people who are three hours have dates that I could go, should I interview with an alumni who is not from either of the colleges I'm applying to?

Their website says that interviews are strongly recommended. If interviewing with the alumni from your schools of choice isn’t possible, I think you should try to interview with other alumni closer to your home.

You could also check if the alumni will do a phone interview. My daughter used Skype for her alumni interview, because of bad weather here in Seattle. In-person would be best, but something to consider if that’s not feasible.

Are interviews that important? I checked on the CMU website and no alumni’s live in and near my area.

You won’t get penalized, don’t worry.

Although I find it hard to believe that there’s no alumni in your area.

Try CIT, for my area there were way more CIT alums than anywhere else and the closest was from CIT. He was also pretty knowledgable about the college as a whole and science/ math/ programming/ engineering in general so I don’t think it’ll be a problem

Are you supposed to sign up for one by yourself? I never was contacted by any alumni committee or anything.

Yes it’s the applicants responsibility to log onto the CMU site, find local alums, contact them, and arrange a meeting

You might want to hurry because they want them done by feb 1 I think
