Does Cornell do alumni interviews? On the admission website it says:
"Formal admission interviews are required for applicants to:
The architecture program in the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning
Formal admission interviews are offered for applicants to:
The School of Hotel Administration
Though Cornell offers applicants the opportunity to meet with Cornell alumni admissions ambassadors, formal interviews are not required, nor offered, for any other undergraduate programs."
So does that mean no interview for applicants to Arts and Sciences, Engineering, ILR, etc.?
@adamant I was just contacted by an alumn to ask to meet in person. I’m super happy at the chance to ask questions about Cornell, but I have one problem, which is that to celebrate New Years’, my friends and I dyed our hair and my hair is dark green right now. If the interview is not evaluative, I’ll keep it the way it is, but if the interview is like past college interviews I’ve had and impacts my admission chances, I’m going to panic and have to bleach and redye my hair brown for the short informal interview. You’re a Cornell student, right? What would you advise I do
@astrobiodreams Yes, I was accepted ED. Haha, no worries, it’s an informal interview and perhaps your green hair will add more interest (if you explain lol). I would advise you to prepare for the interview and any questions they might ask, but don’t panic! It’s a very chill experience.
I was contacted by an alum and she said she was available if I had any questions but specifically said it was informal and not an interview. I said I would like to talk to her and gave her a few times that would work with me. She just emailed me and said she would call me at “random times” on one of the days I said I wasn’t available. Is this a test? I honestly don’t know what to do.
I got an opportunity to meet up at a q&a session for Cornell? They didn’t say interview but it was an opportunity to get to know us and ask questions. Does anyone know if that factors into admission?
Interviews generally do not factor into admission, except if it is really bad or good.
As far as green hair, I think if you were to just explain to the interviewer why your hair is green he/she may just get get a good laugh out of it.
My son just had an informal interview at a coffee shop yesterday. It was really low key. He asked over email about dress code. The guy said Jeans/t-shirt would be just fine. My son said they just talk about my son’s interest in Cornell and the alumni talked about his experiences at the school.
My son had a more formal interview with a traveling representative of WPI (not an alumni) where he brought his transcript and dressed up for it.
I think the only thing about these interviews? If they contact you and you don’t respond or try to make an effort to meet them? They report that back. So that looks like disinterest. So my son meets the people who ask if he wants to interview (only two have).
Also? I think the green hair is great and I wouldn’t change it. The color of your hair doesn’t reflect anything other than your individuality.
Our local Cornell alumni sent a survey to everyone, asking if they want to come to a central location on a Saturday for an interview, or schedule individual times. Son filled survey but hasn’t received any schedule yet. For the central interviews, slots are only 30 minutes each.
