Has anyone completed an on-campus interview since the new admissions dean took over? After my son’s interview this summer, the student who interviewed him sent a card saying how she really enjoyed the conversation. What a nice touch! Has this become the new normal? I thought the thank you notes were supposed to go the other way. This was his first interview so we have no basis for comparison.
My son got some cards from people who interviewed him in the past year. I don’t recall specifically for Bowdoin – it was hit-and-miss. A couple also saved their ammo for after they accepted him. he got a couple of very personal cards them that referenced back to his interview leading me to believe they had taken some notes at the time and used them later when sending cards putting a personal touch on the acceptance and encouraging him to attend. Wesleyan in particular I know did that.
Pretty much every school where DS interviewed sent a follow-up, handwritten card. I too found the direction of the mail to be surprising!
I would say that I was more charmed than he by the schools which engaged personally this way, both before and after acceptance. Call me old-fashioned!
